It appears Centenary College will make good on its word that it will remain in The Summit League until after the 2010-11 school year. The Ladies and Gents made their intent to move down to NCAA Division III known last year beginning in ’11-2012.
Summit commissioner Tom Douple said a buyout option does exist, but he doesn’t expect it to be exercised.
"That is not their intent at all," Douple said.
The Gents’ basketball team is 3-13, one game from making the top eight and the Summit postseason tournament. The Ladies, however, are struggling more at 1-14 in the league and 2-24 overall. Douple, however, said he expects the Centenary softball and baseball teams to be more competitive.
I thought Centenary wasn’t eligible for post season play.
Centenary (mens) is not eligible for the tourney this year due to APR penalty by NCAA. Professional writers, who follow the Summit, shouldn’t make this kind of gaffe.

Are NDSU and UND going to play in WBB? If so, interesting.
The place will be crawling with UND fans. My guess, they will outnumber NDSU fans 2-1 because they have nothing else. They have been drooling for this ever since their hissy fit when they stole the series from the good people of North Dakota and found out they had nothing alone. NDSU didn’t have that problem.
Personally I’m stoked for this. The generation of students at NDSU right now have never experienced good old fashioned UND-hatred and that’s something I as a student look forward to. Disliking SDSU just doesn’t feel as fresh, and lacks the general contempt.
UND “drooling” over basketball? really? Neither basketball team-men’s or women’s, UND or NDSU-, has any fans. it’s the lowest of low tier D 1 basketball…NDSU men had the team of a generation last year, yet averaged attendance of just over 3000. Bottom line, no one cares.
UND fans will be there hoping like hell they can somehow embarrass NDSU in the Dome. If UND doesn’t win you will all pretend like nobody cares about basketball up there. If you do by chance win you’ll all act like it is the biggest thing since your last hockey championship. You’re not fooling anyone but the crazies up in the forks.
You might be surprised at how quick ND would switch to college basketball as the main winter sport if either school can become as successful as some of their peers like UNI or SIU. Boys Basketball still dominates the interest of the majority of people in this state and if a quality product is put on the court year after year they will come in droves. If this arena does finally come to fruition it just might be the key that is needed to get that quality coming in and more fans buying tickets.
I don’t understand why a possible NDSU & UND basketball game would be played in the FargoDome. Considering the opponent the Bison Sports Arena would do just fine. Now if you were talking about Gonzaga, Iowa St. or similar opponents then I could understand why the Bison would need the FargoDome. But UND??
UND doesn’t need to embarrass ndsu in basketball. Football is king at ndsu and you know it. UND has dominated the series for the last 20 years, winning 11 of 14 games…that’s what gets under your skin. But if a basketball victory will help ease your pain, fine, we’re all for the game. I’m just saying it’s not that big of a deal for either school when compared to football.
I don’t know how having a 11-9 edge in the last 20 years the game was played could be considered dominance. Did you know that UND has only won 17 times vs. NDSU in football since 1964? Did you know that NDSU has won 8 National Championships in D2 Football and UND only managed 1? That gets under your skin. The fact that you know that NDSU has a better product on the court next year must drive you nuts also. Why else would you be here.

I keep hearing that the Sioux dominated the Bison the last 20 years that they played football, winning 11 of the last 14 meetings. What I want to know is what happened to the other 6 games in that 20 year span 1985 to 1990? The Bison were 6-0 against the Sioux and won 4 National championships (’85-’86-’88-’90-the last three were unbeaten seasons)! So in the last 20 years that the two schools played the Sioux won 11 games and the Bison 9. The Sioux won 1 national title and the Bison won 4 national titles! Now is that Sioux domination? I will add this to my previous post… Though Massey is one of the computers used for the BCS, I understand that it’s widely known that the BCS uses several other computers to make their highly controversial ratings. It’s also widely known that each computer has it’s own niche with some weighting simply wins and losses, some are weighted with strength of schedule, some include margin of victory ect. ect. ect. I also know that in several of the other computers NDSU is ranked as high as 157 places higher than UND.

I respect that and I don’t badmouth hockey or the Sioux hockey program. But how can you expect us to sit here and listen to you badmouth the Bison athletics? We all know that the Bison football team has had two bad years in a row, with last year being terrible! We know that. But that doesn’t take away from all the great things this program has done. All of the Division-II Football titles are impressive as are the wins over FBS teams even if you disagree. The things the men’s basketball team has accomplished have been impressive as well. The struggles the Sioux have had should be enough to convince you just how tough it is to be successful at this level. I suggest that if you hate the Bison so bad then just leave this blog. It is that simple. Go to the Sioux blog and say what ever you want about NDSU. Someday I am sure we will meet in football and baketball again. When we do then it will be settled on the field and court. I must say I think you going to be surprised at the level of the athlete at NDSU in both men’s and women’s athletics. Athletic competition, win or lose, has always been used by UND to keep the flame of hate alive against NDSU.
