Weather talk

Talked with Montana State head coach Rob Ash and he said about the only way weather will have a major impact on Saturday’s playoff game with NDSU is if there is heavy snow during the game. The little black pellets in the FieldTurf, then, act like snowballs and it gets messy. That happened against Weber State a couple of years ago, on homecoming in October no less, and Ash said it was “brutal football. They had a quarterack from Hawaii and he torched us so go figure.”

“If it snows before or light snow during the game, it’s going to be OK,” he said.

The forecast as of this morning calls for a few snow showers and a high of 28 degrees, a slight downgrade from the partly cloudy outlook and a high in the low 30s earlier in the week.

  1. Bud Grant wouldn’t disagree that muscles work better when its warm. He disagreed with heaters for the psychological effect it supposedly had on the other teams. While MN was out on the field and spread out along the sidelines the other teams would be huddled around the heaters trying to warm up. Personally I prefer a constant temp, if I’m out in the cold I don’t want to “come in and warm up” unless I’m done outside, you get used to it more if its a constant.

  2. Funny you guys brought up Bud Grant, I write about him in my column tomorrow in the “college football winter survival kit.” Yes, NDSU will have heaters on the sideline.

  3. Who cares what Bud Grant thinks, tell me what Don Shula, Chuck Knoll, or Bill Belicheck think.

  6. I don’t think the weather will be the reason the Bison win or lose! Just like every other game it will be: 1-Can the “O”-Line open holes so we can run the ball. 2-Can our QB’s get the ball to receivers downfield. 3-Can the special teams make a big difference with field position and 4-Can the defense keep us in the game if the first three don’t happen! From what I hear Montana State is the more talented team. They are playing at home outside in the snow and should be favored. If they win it should be no surprise but I still say whenever the Bison are a decided underdog they play at a much higher level! Montana State should win but I will not be surprised if the Bison pull this one out! My head says Montana State 27-10 but my heart says Bison 20-17! Go Bison!

  7. What is all the talk of weather being a factor? Last time I checked we live in North Dakota and it is way colder here. These young gentleman are gritting it out all week outside. We open the offence and smack them in the mouth on D and we will win. Remember why ND is so windy, MT blows and MN sucks. These “kids” will prove it tomorrow and next year.
