One guy had it right in September

The Father of Football, who by the way will be in Cheney, Wash., for Saturday’s NDSU at Eastern Washington quarterfinal game, said this in early September before the NDSU opener. I think it bears repeating since he was right, and most of us, like Dom, were wrong.

“I think the team has better athletes than they ever have.  The two keys to this year are injuries and coaching.  The past two years injuries and bad coaching had a significant impact on the team, not only in terms of lack of talent and lack of strategy, but in terms of killing the psyche of the team.  I think Kansas is looking past NDSU; why wouldn’t you, the Bison were 3-8 last year and 1-6 before they played some patsies, and that’s in FCS.  Of course, the Bison were in every game. They could have beat ISU.  Sure, the Bison lost Paschall, but running back is a reload position at NDSU, that doesn’t bother me.  I think they are significantly upgraded at QB, and the O-line is better than last year.  The defense has better players this year compared to last year.  So now it’s about coaching.  Bohl has proved he can coach a game, look at Montana, Ball State, and the second Minnesota game.   I wouldn’t bet on 9-2, but I think it is a possibility.”

  1. I have to admit I thought “The Father of Football” was way off base when I read that in September. I picked the Bison to be 3-8 , 4-7 at best! I think the speed of the Bison defense was evident against Kansas. Who would have ever known our offensive line could perform like this with two true freshman! The most amazing thing is to have a true freshman at center and consider he didn’t get any real playing time ’til the 4th quarter of the SIU game and then had to start the next week against the Jacks! I think when you see so many young kids playing and being successful it shows when he wants to Bohl can recruit with anybody if FCS! Just think what the haul will be in February with this playoff performance this year and the promise of new turf in 2011 or 2012! The rest of the MVFC is going to see that what has happened the first couple of years in this conference isn’t going to be the norm for Bison football.
Bring on the competition . . . the Bison are back!
    Go Bison!

  2. Pardon my ignorance, but who is “The Father of Football”? I thought that was Walter Camp, who died in the 1920s.

  3. Lakes sets up Tailgating at msu, Monke writes about him on his forum blog
But you guys filter him out on here, stay classy, he’s done more for ndsu then the forum has lately censorship is a joke, nice freedom of speech areavoices

  4. Hail the Father!

Others picked the Bison at 8-3 and in the playoffs also, though never guessed this deep. So he was not the only one who felt the Bison would be much improved, but hail him anyway!!

  5. It’s time you reveal who the “Father of Football” is. This is the same guy who
said NDSU would pump UNI. He dropped a stinker on that one.
However, I do give him reps overall because he’s right regarding the big picture.
The Bison stayed relatively healthy all season and benefitted from very good coaching.
When you add to it the athleticism of the players and their determination to do well, regardless
of the challenge, you get a good enough record to get into the playoffs and a team that’s playing
as well as ever right now, when it counts.
So reps to whoever that guy is but it’s time to give it up. Who is he?

  6. The guy quoted in Monke’s blog did confirm one thing I’ve been saying all along… that it is good for at least one North Dakota team to be in the Big Sky. The guy from Killdeer said that last weekend was the first NDSU game that folks in western Nodak actually gave a hoot about since NDSU moved to FCS. (I didn’t link it, sorry, but you know where to find it) With all the native Montanans living in western Nodak, that should excite the Bison and Sioux fan bases when ND’s two major schools play out west. So far, ND’s two major schools have been so out of touch with western Nodak since moving to FCS and ending the rivalry. Could also help UND’s attendance woes.
