I am watching the NDSU – EWU game. End of 3rd Qtr. My impressions of the Bison … though they are tied, the offensive coaches may lose the game for the Bison They won last week on their running game. Yet at the end of the 1st half when they were in scoring position, NDSU throw 4 passes in a row and ended up with zip (an intercpetion). In the 2nd half of the 3rd qtr, when they need 5-6 yards, either Jensen (the QB) runs the ball, or NDSU tries a pass play. NDSU has done this on three series in a row now, and had to turn the ball over each time. This is bad play calling, it seems to me. NDSU has 3-4 very good running backs, so why not wear down the other team and get them tired. This is NDUS’s strength. Why go with their weaknesses when you need to produce? Nice to see NDSU tied, but I think they would be ahead right now if not for suboptimal play-calling. NDSU just did the same – pass strategy – on the current set of downs with the same result. Turned the ball over on downs. Frustrating to watch, NDSU straying from their strengths.
And … NDSU loses the game by having the QB run the ball on the last play. Again, NDSU strayed from its strength – its 3-4 really good running backs – and instead ran with the QB. Frustrating. This was NDSU’s game to lose once they got ahead, sorry to see it did not work out.
Was there even anybody on the other side of the headphones on those booth reviews? Tell me if I am wrong but both of the reviews were botched. Even the guys calling the game on espn3 were speechless. We got screwed. The first one was obviously an incomplete pass and on the second Jensen’s shoulder was clearly down before the ball came out! I am livid. There should be an investigation. That was terrible!
very good game in tough conditions. Both QB’s made crucial mistakes, Jensen had to be aware of the situation and the only thing that could kill the Bison on that final play was a turnover. Tough call and tough way to lose. I’m not a ‘SU fan but watched and was amazed at the post season run they’ve made. NDSU football is really on track for big things in the future.
Crooked refs what a joke.
What conference were they from?
either South or CAA conference… Don’t recall which.
Wow – as a Sioux fan who follows NDSU football I am speechless and livid that there could be a call blown that badly at the end of a game! Clearly a ground-caused fumble…the QB was down and the play was over. For NDSU to lose like that is so unfortunate! Great run in the post-season. If I were a player or coach on that team, my heart would be absolutely broken right now!
Hopefully UND football will be able to compete with the post-season run of their own sometime soon!
This game should have never gotten to ot. just needed one stop on those two fourth down plays and it is over, give them credit for converting. it was a very good and fun year and the future is very bright. i feel terrible that the season ended this way, cant even imagine how the players and coaches feel. thank you for a season that will never be forgotten and putting bison football back on the map. cant wait till next year.
Turn out the lights the party’s over!
I have to agree with Blue Egg. Play calling was very very suspect. Time for Vigen to go.
