Holloway will miss spring football

Bison head coach Craig Bohl said today that veteran receiver Warren Holloway will miss spring football because of damage to his knee. It was something that hampered him as the season went along, he said, with swelling being the main issue.

“He was able to persevere though it,” Bohl said.

Holloway is a rather known commodity, so missing spring ball is not that big of a deal for him, anyway. But for Zach Vraa, Trevor Gebhart, Reed Duchscher and Cooper Wahlo Jr. … it’s huge. For Justin Howard, a chance to make another stride.

Vraa and Gebhart redshirted last season. Duchscher and Wahlo did not have a reception. This is a position group that just needs to get better. Bohl said sophomore Nick Powell-Calhoun will be switched to defensive end. He was 6-foot-4 and 228 pounds as a redshirt freshman last year.

  1. Tough break, but rather get it taken care of now than next year. Did anyone mention why Calhoun was moving? Just not cutting it at WR?

  2. Calhoun is now enormous. Ate himself (and lifted, of course) to a position change to defensive end.

  3. Holloway should be fine by the start of the season. I believe we have some young receivers that will surprise people around the league. Go Bison!

  4. For added depth in the fall, are we going to need to play any of the true freshmen? Are the redshirts (Vraa and Gebhart) impact players?

  5. Vraa & Gebhardt will be on the field a lot, expect Sigers and Matt Jones gettin some slot plays during a game!!

Littlejohn is going to DE too, he’s at 220lbs and quote” A BEAST ” from a coach

  6. Too bad about Holloway, missing practice time is always a bummer, even Warren has room for vast improvement.

But, this does give more time to the younger guys, we need some of them to step up finally. Wahlo would be my first bet for some contributions. Vraa and Gebhardt will have to really be something to make an impact next year.

Interesting about Calhoun moving to DE. Didn’t the Bison recruit about a hundred DEs in 2009? Some have moved to DT like Perry and Juchem, but has Calhoun even played the position before? He’s gotten bigger, yes, but still not DE size by any means but he must be really slow or have bad hands to be moved to DE rather than TE.

    • I kind of thought maybe put Calhoun at tight end too. I guess we’ve just gotta have faith that the Bison coaches no what they are doing. Go Bison!

    • I disagree. I think Vraa and Gebhart are the future at the position. If not for their injuries, I think we would have seen 2 tF playing at WR last year. Wahlo might be good too, but he looked hesitant last year.
