Hamilton was Summit’s best player

This from the Summit League on an all-district team:

Four Summit League men’s basketball players were named as National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2011 Division I All-District team selections. The quartet is led by Oakland’s Keith Benson and IUPUI’s Alex Young, who were each named as first team honorees in District 12. Oral Roberts’ Dominique Morrison and South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters received second team recognition. The four selections mark the highest single-season total in Summit League history.

The player that is missing in this is Oakland guard Reggie Hamilton, who was just sensational in the Summit tournament and would have gotten my vote for tourney MVP. I get all the talk about Benson, although he’s not a lottery pick by any means in my mind because he seems too soft. But somebody tell me why Hamilton isn’t a pro prospect? Nobody in the league could guard him and he took over the Southern Utah game by himself.  Plus, in the title game against ORU, it was Hamilton that provided the gusto in a decisive second half run.

  1. Jeff I couldn’t agree more! He has speed and quickness and he is a tough kid! He can take it to the hoop or bury the 3 in your face. He would sure look great in a Bison uniform! I know I keep asking but what is the latest on getting the remodel going on the BSA?

  2. Bison fans need to shake their fists in the direction of Kansas City, Mo. UMKC cut the guy from their team before he transferred thus giving him another year of eligibility (he’d have been a senior had he transferred normally). Hamilton is just a beast and I think he is a legitimate pro prospect headed into his senior year. He’ll keep Oakland near the top of the conference.

  3. Hey Jeff or Dom, what are the chances that UND backs out on the Big Sky if UNO comes into the Summit and the MVFC goes to 12.

I’m not a geography major but I believe at least six schools in both the MVFC and Summit are closer to Grand Forks than Montana State(the nearest Big Sky school to GF). You’d almost have to think that the Big Sky would be strongly encouraging UND to leave since they have an odd scheduling number and UND is basically going to be SUU of their league.

I did hear Douple say he would still be open to adding UND, that kind of caught me by surprise but the guy seems to love the Dakotas so maybe that isn’t so shocking.

  4. I like 10 teams in the Summit League and 9 teams in the MVFC. FCS doesn’t need conference championship games because we already have the playoffs.

  5. You are right on. Hamilton really lit up IPFW both games this year and he was the difference. The game at Oakland this year was decided in the last seconds when Hamilton (who else?) blocked Ben Botts’ potential game-winning three from behind. IPFW competed with Oakland pretty well again this year but had nobody who could match up with Hamilton and shut him down.

  6. I would be shocked if UND backed out of the Big Sky at this point. That would be admitting that choosing the Big Sky over the Summit was a mistake and when was the last time UND admitted making a mistake?? They still say they were right about not going D-I when NDSU did! If I was a Sioux fan I would be yelling and screaming for the Sioux to rethink this. NDSU, SDSU, USD and now it looks like UNO in the Summit/MVC, why would UND want to be in the Big Sky???? Personally I hope they stay in the Big Sky! Go Bison!
