BSA project in final design phase

There’s no concrete starting date as far as getting a shovel in the ground, but the Bison Sports Arena renovation has begun the final design phase, said athletic director Gene Taylor.

T.L. Stroh of Fargo is the lead architectural firm. Stroh has presented conceptual drawings of generally what it will look like.

As for the fundraising, Taylor said he’s still having meetings with people and still looking for donors. Sanford has committed $10 million and Scheels $5 million to date, of a project that will total in the mid 30s million. It will eventually be renamed the Scheels Center.

  1. really, no one can confirm a date? when will ndsu get fresh blood into their admin staff there and get some new ideas/donations, etc i just dont comprehend it.

    • Howdy I know all of us want it to happen fast but you have to remember trying to get $30 million in donations isn’t easy in the current economy . Just go ask other schools in the Summit or Missouri Valley Football Conference. I think the Bison administration has done a “Super” job. Go Bison!

    • Feel free to pony up the last $10M and we’ll all be able to “comprehend” it pretty quick.

      • obviously i dont have the money, just workin at Infinity windows. Just seems like same ol same ol people calling on donors year in and year out. fresh blood might help.
Also, State of North Dakota has $6 billion surplus, but cant give the D1 basketball team at NDSU $5-10 million to finish this even after all the exposure woodside & co gave the state.

          • Pretty obvious to tell its Sam posting as an alternate account than Lakes. The guy needs to have is internet turned off.

          • who are you people? who is “correct” and why cant a person post a reply to him?
you all act like there is only 1 ndsu bison fan on these boards, there is probably more than 1 bison fan if you’d use your heads instead of being indictive and mean.

        • The Woodside train was very short lived and left the station along time ago. BB isnt the big dog at NDSU. So quit crying.

          • woodside was a household name for about a year after the run, woodside was more well known “nationally” than all of your canadian hockey players combined.

  2. Bucky Maughn is going into fundraising following his retirement earlier this month.

Erv Inniger has retired and is no long fundraising.

    There is your new blood.

  3. The State of North Dakota wouldn’t allow money to go for a Bison sports facility.

  4. Ya, NDSU needs this bball arena now. This is borderline ridiculous that this isnt done yet. Last state funded NDSU project was BSA correct? Might as well go full circle state of ND!

  5. aren’t there any successful ndsu grads? or do they all work at mcdonald’s and tv stations?

  6. New blog post same abusive and hostile aholes . If this site could stop them, itd be much better off for ndsu people, please help, they always start them abuse, insecure sissies .

  7. Insecure? You mean like those that write threatening letters to their local government representative?

As for Howdy Howdy being lakes, don’t think that is possible if Howdy Howdy really works at Integrity Windows. Integrity is a horse that left lakes’ barn a long, long time ago.

I’m sure the fundraising for this project is getting some traction. Economy seems to be showing some indications of changing for the better. Can’t wait for it to be completed. The biggest fan of the newly refurbished building will no doubt be Saul Phillips. Imagine the recruits he’ll be able to bring in when there is a beautiful place to play.

  8. Has anyone actually tried to do some fundraising west of Jamestown?? Isn’t that where all the economic success is happening right now, Bismarck/Minot/Dickinson/Williston? There are some new companies rolling into those areas that want to establish a “community presence” I would imagine.

  9. A valid point but Western ND is in full focus mode trying to establish additional housing, schools, related infrastructure and a host of other needs to supplement the influx of oil field workers.

  10. FInal Design Phase: AKA – the architect is going to finish the design so they can get paid with a portion of what has been raised. This thing is a LONG way from being built, they still need 15 million dollars. I don’t see why Gene is leading people on like this, how long are basketball recruits going to keep being told about this thing?

    • thank you robb for your honest assessment.
so we are looking at another 5 years.

  11. Am I reading to much into this? Scheels 5 million to date, will be renamed Scheels Center? Is the plan still to have the complex named Sanford Health Athletic Complex and the Basketball arena to be named Scheels arena or did that change? Is there a chance of Scheels upping their offer?

I have a feeling I read too much into this as I’m not really sure what this post is telling us.

  12. I think reality is setting in: NDSU simply doesn’t have a lot of big money alumni who will donate to the athletic dept and those they do have donate to football – because that’s the only sport that really matters.

Unless it’s going to be financed entirely on corporate gifts or state money, even a $30 million dollar arena, a modest project for a state flagship school, is not going to get enough money to get done.

  13. The track and indoor practice facility has been split out from the basketball arena. Construction will begin in four months or so and be completed before the basketball arena rennovations begin in 2012. NDSU will seek legislative approval this summer for the track/indoor practice facility as the funds are in place for this phase. Fundraising for the main arena will continue while the track/indoor practice facility is begin built.

    • why does NDSU have to have the legislature approve it, its DONATED MONEY!
another stupid hurdle by anti ndsu people in legistlature, or am i reading this wrong?

      • Settle down Sam – and post under your Lakes account. Stop pretending to be one of your several schizophrenic cohorts.

          • Words of wisdom from an individual who threatened a state representative and proudly displays his photo wrapped around O.J. Simpson on facebook. It’s called being a sociopath.

  14. I don’t see UND’s $19 million practice facility breaking ground yet either. NDSU could build that on their campus right now, paid in full, if they used the funds already raised for the new BSA.

  15. Stalking me shows how pathetic you. und people are . I didnt threaten him ,.wasnt charged, he was just pissed that I pointed out what a fraud he was for being a ndsu grad and caving in to political pressure on a nickname thats ALMOST ALL NATIVES OPPOSE!!

Keep hating und fans the jealousy and abusive nature is your way of life since you have ZERO TRUE D 1 winning sports programs. Its gotta be frustrating.

  16. I think the state should take a fraction of the surplus money and give it to all North Dakota colleges. Its a good investment to pay for infrastructure courtesy of the big oil companies. Some of the buildings are literally falling apart.

    • Because towns like Mayville and Valley City don’t deserve to have public 4-year colleges in a state as small as ND! Neither do Minot and Dickinson, but at least those are justified as being regional schools.

With the state flagships only an hour away – Mayville and VC should be closed, turned into junior colleges or turned into private schools like Jamestown.

  17. Why dont you. prick stalkers goto a lame und blog. I am better than all of you pricks. I never start these, but ill end them so screw off

  18. Dont deserve right on the money !!

Congrats to bison baseball…keep it. rolling today.

Ryan smith will be # 4 Gebhardt will be # 3
Whats up with the # changes ?

  19. baseball lost, good run for 1st year in playoffs. I agree with the anti lakes people, give it a rest, he doesnt attack you until you attack him for zero reason. please goto your own team’s blogs. happy memorial day everyone.

  20. I really hope ndsu gets this bball arena done, sdsu’s arena feels like a palace compared to your sweat lodge. Ive partied with lakes, you haters need to lay off, he’s a blast. see you in brookings this fall everybody

  21. Tressel to NDSU as Asst? he’s buds with Coach Bohl, we’d get lots of exposure

      • jose told me tonight he is going to visit Central Washington tomorrow. good luck to him.

        • I agree Lakes, he always came in and played well for the Bison, usually led us to a victory and never complained about his role. I hope he finds a school where he can showcase his talents! Good Luck Jose!

          • Mohler was one of the highlights of the 2008 recruiting class when they were introduced to the media. Bohl took the time to talk about Mohler after all the kids were introduced during the press conference. I believe Vigen brought this kid in from San Diego. He was a scholarship player.

  22. As for the BSA, I’ve been hearing about the remodeling project since I was a freshman in high school, I’m about to be a Sophomore at NDSU, I’d like this to get done for future students. However, while its ok to be anxious, don’t hate too much on the University regarding this, rough economy and the fact that this isn’t the football team will make it harder to raise the necessary funds.

As for Jose, he did not live up to his billing, not his fault, we were all looking for a savior after Mertens first season. From what is reported, he was a great teammate and gave it his all. Not his fault entirely(never got any better though) that he was not the next Steve Walker. Good Luck to him at Central Washington, hopefully he does well, gets his degree and has a positive influence on their program.

  23. One way we could get this basketball arena done is to go back to the FargoDome addition (Which I think is a better basketball arena). You have the $10 mil from Sanford, plus $5 mil from Scheels, the FargoDome could probably cover the rest. We could break ground today. Unless it would need approval from the State. Not sure if it would or not since it would not be a NDSU owned building.
