NDSU baseball recruit David Ernst was drafted in the 47th round of the Major League Baseball draft today by the Chicago Cubs. He said it’s up in the air if he’ll sign or not, but put it this way: it would be a gamble if he did.
Forty-seventh rounders are not treated like seventh rounders. NDSU head coach Tod Brown said the high round draft picks have to practically play themselves out of being a prospect. So in another words, Ernst would have to put together a few outstanding seasons in the low minors to continue to move up. The guess here people are advising him to stay in school and try and improve his draft status when it comes up again his junior year. He has until Aug. 15 to sign with the Cubs.
On top of today, it’s a good sign for the NDSU program that it is attracting drafted players. It could help Brown’s message to area players that it’s OK to stay around and play Division I baseball.
Good grief, how about giving credit where credit is due and that’s the program at Fargo South High School.
Start a Fargo South Media Blog and you can give all the credit you want to Fargo South. Kolpack writes for the BISON Media Blog.
How about giving some credit to the young man for having the competitive drive and self-initiative to develop himself into a MLB prospect by the age of 18? How about giving some credit to his parents for allowing him to excel on the playing field? How about giving some credit to the Fargo Post 2 legion coaches? You could go on and on. If you don’t want to read about the Bison spin to the story, don’t read the Bison Media Blog.
He never gave NDSU credit for developing him just signing him to a letter of intent to play at NDSU. Basically he is saying Ernst proves NDSU is signing better talent for baseball. How does that slight Fargo South?
I don’t care if he signed with the Yankees, give credit to those who developed him.
srsly?
why are there so many whiners on this site?
dude, the point of this blog entry was that BRAVO for NDSU for recruiting talent that is Draftable in the MLB. NDSU as a D1 member in a good baseball conference needs to get 1-2 of these a year. Oral Roberts took down a #1 and oklahoma last week in playoffs.
kid has talent. Could the forum or ch 11 say he’s a NDSU recruit just once in their stories?
Thank you Dan Hammer for giving proper credit.
Credit=Dan Hammer????
Wouldn’t put it past the guy to do something like this.
probably, poor guy, worst in area, well, almost.
Did I miss the message of this blog? Nowhere does it say NDSU is responsible for this kid getting drafted. It makes the point that NDSU could start to recruit better baseball players BECAUSE he was drafted. It’s always a good thing when a local person does something very few have done. But to make this a credit thing is way off base.
This is how it is done: “FARGO – Fargo South right-handed pitcher David Ernst was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 47th round of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft.” “MLB: Jamestown College pitcher Kreis selected in 35th round by the Nationals. A former Grand Forks Central standout, Kreis started 30 games in his four years at Jamestown College and had a 21-5 overall record.”
Thank you Dan Hammer! Thank you Fargo Forum!
Four comments from you and every single one of them totally missed the point of the original entry.
Credit must have been sniffing paint before he read the article. Totally missed the boat. Wow.
sorry but this isnt a fargo south blog. i dont get why it’s such a big deal. a lot of ppl know where he went to school
I wouldn’t really say this is huge for recruiting considering he is from Fargo. Doubt he will turn around a program that has been bad until the last couple years, but it is still a good player to get to come and hopefully we will see more like him come to NDSU.
And we continue to build our programs past the mid-level Big10 status. Kids like this don’t just sign with any program. This is the direction all of our programs are headed. Things like this will be much more frequent in the next few years. Both signing kids like this and NDSU athletes getting drafted. 20+ future NFLers on the roster next year and 2-3 future professional basketball players.
another sarcastic troll message, cmon you always do this.
go away bison03
troll is obvious.
Go away Suzie03
Yep, you guys know it all, I write something that isn’t in agreement with the rest of the holding hand group so I must be a troll. I can name 5 guys in our depleted senior class who will get NFL tryouts next year just based on past film and the numbers some of them have put up at past underclassmen prodays. 4 of those 5 have a real, real legitimate chance to stick with the team they will either get drafted by or sign a FA contract with. I can name you 5 underclassmen who as long as they stay healthy will get drafted. There are another 5-10 who will get free agent looks, just like we have had every year for the past 5. Some aren’t even the big names we think about on our roster but they contribute and have NFL numbers.
I think its great on lakes and ming lecturing me on what is apparently appropriate for this board. Classic stuff.
anyone can look up your underhanded sarcastic stuff bud.
people just dont forget
Nope, its when I disagree with the pack that everyone tries to call me out. We’ll look back in 5 years and see who was closer to being correct. I’m have my opinion and reasons for having them just like everyone else has theirs. Thanks for being so concerned though Scooter.
