The first FCS power index is out and it only reaffirms what I’ve been saying for a month: Indiana State is under-rated, obviously paying the penalty for being such a woeful program for so long. It also goes to show that if you get the right coach and bump up his resources, it is possible to turn around any program.
I still have reservations whether anybody can turn the Gophers around. The program has basically been a loser since the early 1960s … but that’s another story. Anyway, on the other side of the power poll, it reaffirms Georgia Southern’s No. 1 status in both the coaches and media top 25 poll. I didn’t think GSU played a tough enough schedule.
And the great west is the #2 ranked conference. The power index no longer carries any weight with most bison posters on this site. They’ll tell you it’s wrong because there is no way a crappy conference like the great west is even close to the might mvc.
I know right, why would SDSU/NDSU want to leave a 5 team conference with no autobid and 3 teams 1000+ miles away for a conference with established state schools all within 1000 miles, an autobid, and much better average attendance league wide?
What a bunch of morons.
It’s ok, look at your future conference. You guys will fit in nicely right below Sac St. at position 9 of 10. Still mad bro?
I am not saying the GW is crappy they just don’t have 10 or 12 teams which means they don’t have some teams down in the bottom of the poll. But I will give them credit if the poll says 2 then so be it. Top to bottom maybe it is better when the MVFC has to count it’s bottom teams. You know the crap about polls, UND beat Southern Utah and still Southern Utah is ranked ahead. That is why you gotta play it on the field. Sioux have played good the last 2 weeks. I give credit where it is due. Now will UND fans give the Bison credit for what they have accomplished? Go Bison!
If you wont say it I will. The GW is a crappy conference.
Why thank you, Mr. Troll! Anything else you can tell me about myself? Sheesh. Don’t you have a place of your own to go to and discuss what is obviously important to you?
Honest question regarding the GPI–does it account for playing non-DI competition? I know at least two of the computer polls it is based on do not take sub-DI games into account…
Either way, the Bison are where we thought they were. And that other school that seems to be begging for attention is nowhere to be found in the top 25, again, not a surprise. If you cup your hand to your ear and face north, you can hear the faint whine…
Jeff After your 2 week rant about why UND was in the poll (mistaken identity..haha). Sioux fans were thinking you might address your mistake. Guess not. Apparently you haven’t heard. UND beat SUU last week in Utah. I suppose you wouldn’t want to bring that up after your previous tirades. The fact that the Sioux are 20th in one poll and 26th in the other poll , is that still a mistake? I am sure you have a valid reason why it is a mistake.
Apparently you haven’t heard. There’s no way you can justify being ranked aside from your lone victory over a funded D-I. Get over yourself. The fact that UND is ranked right along side an Indiana State team that curbstomped an FBS team and is 4-1 with its sole loss being Penn St, well, that just reaffirms the obvious–the coach’s poll has issues. Playing Mayville State or Minot State (or the equivalent, I think there’s three of ‘em on your schedule) isn’t justification for a top ranking at this level even if you beat them. It just isn’t.
Knowledgeable fans know the difference. If you want to continue to delude yourself, please go right ahead. Just please do it elsewhere.
Look at the others receiving votes on the coaches poll. South Dakota State received 17 votes and Cal Poly who beat them 48-10 only received 5. How does South Dakota State receive any votes with the way their season is going?
And in the GPI, UND is #40. That’s probably pretty darn accurate.
“Does your ring hurt your finger when you go out at night?” ….. Charlie Pride
Opps, I guess that’s EWU.
Beating SUU means the Who are justified in being ranked……. hahahahaha
A single question on a blog counts as “tirades” (plural) now?
20, 25,40? There is 8,10 actual real teams in the fcs!!
After 10,12 its all just D2 teams.
Gophers are killing me,id like to see them dump kill (have him.say its his.health) and get a BIG NAME COACH
Keep changing coaches cause thats a great way to rebuild a program. They talked to big name coaches before they hired Kill, none of them were interested. Its a deadend job. The brought in a big name coach for basketball and look where that has got them.
I like Jerry Kill but you may be right Lakes. In the last 50 years only Lou Holtz could do anything with this program. What could they do with a guy like Urban Meyer? Go Gophers! Go Bison!
Someone posted the fcs coaches poll voters. The reason the racists up north gets votes is there are 2 voters in great west and 2 voters in big sky, thus they keep ranking them. Because on GPI index, AGS, CS & TSN they dont get any votes. Wow, what a joke of a poll, and ed miekrot of south dakota keeps voting for his own team in it.
I watched the Indiana State and SDSU game on Midcontinent last Saturday. No knock on the Jacks but Indiana State seemed to have a lot more speed than the Jacks did. Indiana State will be a tough game for the Bison they are quick! Hopefully the Bison can regroup after a sloppy game last week and lay the wood to USI! Go Bison!
Indiana State has done a lot to improve their football program. The biggest is hiring Trent Miles. Then this fall they removed scholarship limits.
Here is the article:

Indiana State – As for facilities, they have some great basketball facilities. Football needs some work.
They have started preliminary planing for a new on campus football stadium (it is part of their new University Master Plan):

So you can improve a team if you get the right coach, the right players, and start improving facilities.
Enough about Indiana State – GO BISON!
When the Vikings leave the Twin Cities and the Gophers are the only show in town, the worm will turn. It’s not a coincidence that the Gopher’s football program diminished as soon as the Vikings arrived.
Commonman, I never looked at that but you are right the Gophers were great up until around 1960 when the Vikings arrived. I hope you are wrong about the Vikings leaving but I am worried. Threatening to move to a smaller metro area like San Antonio is one thing, saying you are looking at Los Angeles is another. Vikings need to get a stadium or they are probably gone.
Actually, the reason for the decline in gopher football has more to do with intergration than anything else. According to Sid Hartmann, (and he old enough to know) when the SEC and the other south of the Mason/Dixon line colleges started allowing black players on their footballs (circa 1970′s), they didn’t have to migrate north for an opportunity to play. They could stay home (Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama et al) and play. In fact, Bear Bryant of Alabama had a lot to do with convincing the other SEC coaches to allow blacks to play after the Tide got their butts handed to them at USC which had very good black players.
MVFC has 5 teams in the top 25 of the FCS Power Index. GWC has 5 teams total! (only 3 of which are in the top 40)
