As most know NDSU picked up its 5th verbal commitment for 2012 as Andy Smith out of Sioux Falls Roosevelt yesterday, a 6’1, 185 pound safety, who’s played about every position imaginable in high school. Got me to thinking about the success NDSU has had of getting players out of South Dakota, just looking at the current roster with 3 seniors on the team, including 2 captains (Preston Evans and Coulter Boyer); Ryan Jastram has had a huge impact on this team, Trevor Gebhart is seeing the field for the 1st time and Mike Hardie has yet to make an impact. I spoke with Terry Vandrovec from the Argus Leader on my radio show tonight, the podcast will be up tomorrow of the interview about this and got to me thinking about the amount of players that hail from each school’s home state; here are the numbers with the current rosters:
NDSU: 19
SDSU: 28
Granted South Dakota has a slightly bigger population than North Dakota but thought that was an interesting stat to look at…for those that missed the weekly Izzo and Kolpack radio chat here’s the link: http://www.wday.com/event/article/id/53481/group/Sports/
UPDATED WEDNESDAY 11:30 AM: If you missed my conversation with Terry Vandrovec from last night’s radio show on 970 WDAY here it is: http://www.wday.com/event/article/id/53535/group/Sports/
For a second, I thought that was your prediction for Sat.’s game, not the number of in-state players on each team. Anyway this great stuff in the blog and also the video and audio recordings. This is the best coverage ever, especially great when you live 700 miles away.
Agreed. Thanks Jeff/Dom!
This game is going to be NDSU south! 5000+ ndsu fans, I even sold a pair of tickets for $100. Looks like sdsu wont allow any ndsu tailgaters on the north side, so sounds like the grey lots south are the only choice unless we can weasel our way into the north lot. Be loud and continue the road to the championship!!
i am saying sweet !
These next two games are a bit like living between two neighbors; one of which has a Pitbull and the other a Doberman and both are trained watch dogs. You go about your business but you always know they are there and the potential harm they could cause if you let your guard down.
Props out to OTTER BAR.in ottertail lake, Big sign outside.says.. Watch NDSU beat sdsu here, 2pm
Awesome, wish Fargo businesses outside of chubs would actually pump up NDSU more, whats wrong with them?
Can’t really expect them to keep up to bigtime OTTER BAR. They’ll probably all be out of business by winter.
otterbar is for big time D1, fargo bars a joke, D2 or naia at best. time for the 1985 crowd to move up to the big time like we do in minneapolis, as i know all the high school coaches, kids, parents and plans. my friends who all coach at ndsu hand out at the otterbar and give me all the inside information.
I bet they do lakes. I know your name has been brought up a few times among players (both past and current) and coaches and its not for the reasons you would like to think.
