Zach Vraa

It appears Zach Vraa, the freshman receiver who cracked the starting lineup before breaking his collarbone during the second game of the season, is on the verge of not returning this season. At least that’s the vibe I got from the Craig Bohl press conference this week.

Vraa targeted this week as the game he was hoping to be back in the lineup. He’s been running at full speed without pads in practice and he told Bohl that he feels good. But the coach said doctors have told him there is more room for healing to happen.

“I know the calendar is starting to slip away here,” Bohl said.

Asked if applying for a medical hardship is a possibility — and Vraa would most likely get it — Bohl said he’s been thinking about that. “But we have not hit November yet,” he said.

  1. Since we will be losing nearly 30 seniors in his class I would rather see him get a medical redshirt.

  2. If he is healthy, play him. He is an agressive receiver, we need him. We have a chance at a NC THIS year, play him. Who knows what next year will bring?

    • Hard to argue with this logic. The question is, did he get Wally Pipp’d? Even so, He would be unquestioned 3rd WR if he did. It’s all about the playoffs.

  3. Vraa is the best WR on our roster. I love warren, ryan, trevor as players and they are doing a solid job.

But VRAA was MR FOOTBALL MINNESOTA . State track champ and come into this year as #1A receiver as a freshman sharing the #1 spot with a senior wr!!

I hope vraa plays asap, this is coach speak, maybe we see him.vs vb uni?? Still 3 games after this one and playoffs. LET HIM PLAY

    • I say if the kid can help us, play him this year. Like Bisonguy said, never know what next year will bring. We’re winning the NC this year.

  4. I’m saying if he gets cleared this year and the coaches think he will help the team, play him. Why and how would he play if he wasn’t cleared????

  5. I agree, he is most definitely the best receiver on our team…his body control and route running ability are unmatched on the squad and probably even in all of FCS. The kid has so much V(raa) talent it is unbelievable, we need him down the stretch if we plan on winning the National Championship because he is a game changer and nearly unstoppable for a cornerback to defend in the redzone.

  6. I think Vraa is a very good receiver, but I think our wrs we have right now are very good. Hard pressed to say he is our best. I don’t think we have had very many dropped balls and have not even really tapped the talent of Smith and Gebhart yet. Vraa would add depth and would help in a playoff run.

  7. Gotta love fargo media, nothing on ndsu game on wday at @ 10 + NBOTN hammer had nothing but a und safety story that some dork from grand forks did. DOES FARGO.MEDIA IGNORE NDSU THAT BAD?? Whoaaa fox had 1 soundbite. Biggest game in history of the state and nothing, ouch.

    • same ignorant loud mouth that nealy cost your every tooth in your mouth at moondance

  8. When a dip$hit like you touts EVERY upcoming game as the “biggest game in history”, it tends to lack credibility and/or relevance.

How many times do you need to be told that news teams (sports) run stories that their viewership demands? Maybe if you sold more ads…

  9. Listen to the doctors. No need to have him re-injure himself. We are a reloading FCS team, not a rebuilding one, so we’ll be fine year in a year out for the most part. If the doctors clear him to play, great. If not, don’t rush it.

  10. Moondance quit with the lies, my god psycho much?

How about this paynesville mn kid story in startribune

Paynesville now standing at 6-3, and with Bungum producing these numbers in 2011: 225 rushes, 1,952 yards (8.7 per carry) and 22 TDs; 80 of 147 passing, 915 yards and 10 TDs; 11 catches, 253 yards and 2 TDs; and another TD on an 89-yard kickoff return

  11. I just hope we don’t have a situation in the playoffs where we could have used Vraa and fall short. I doubt it would happen but nothing is given in the toughest conference of all of FCS, the MVFC. Who knows what would happen next year, our conference is stacked for years to come. Kid was going to be your starter at the beginning of the year for a reason.

  12. Hard call to make. Our receivers have a hard time getting seperation against good D-backs. You have a couple of hard questions that need to be asked and answered. How much would he help the team if he came back healthy. He hasnt played in a while. You also have to take in to consideration and ask what is better for the player, his future and future Bison teams. I am sure he wants to come back as soon as possible. But would that be the best choice?
