Frisco, Texas: The field

Here’s your inside scoop to the field at Pizza Hut Park for the Jan. 7 title game between NDSU and Sam Houston State. The landscape architect happens to be one of my best college friends and is the same guy who designed the complex Target Field system. Here’s his overview:

Sand Base Natural grass. Tifway 419 Bermuda overseeded with Winter Rye grass. The FC Dallas (pro soccer) club plays at this stadium so the surface should be very short and tight. They haven’t had a concert since the summer so the footing should be good. Tom Jones (not the singer) is the groundsman. The stadium has about 20 practice fields outside for football and soccer training and tourneys. Not sure if the Bison will use these for practice or not. If you could ask them where they are setting up, I could fill you in on that place as well.”

  1. As long as it is not red.

Hope to get as many Bison fans as can possibly make it and carry on the yell like h— crowd.

Visited with some Ga. Southern fellers after the game at an establishment. They were quite complimentary of our team. We had a great conversation and they kept talking about that #20. Heags was awesome.

    Go Bison.

  2. Heagle and the defense will see the option again in two weeks. If they were this good after only having one week to prepare, imagine 2 weeks from now. My Oh My. They are going to put the hurt on SHSU, not going to be pretty. Our defense was big time FBS caliber on Saturday and my ears are still ringing.

    • Your right. My mistake, poor math by me. 3 weeks even makes us more scary. Good night SHSU. Raising another banner in the Fargodome.

  3. Whats the deal w the tickets? apparently there is an ndsu allotment and ticks you can buy to the game

  4. Heagle may have played the best defensive game i have ever seen by a Bison – absolutely amazing. I know i am talking crazy but i will just say it anyway. why not, i am excited by the big win! By the time they are seniors will we say Heagle is the best safety in ndsu history? marcus williams the best cb? Jensen the best qb (before you kill me on this suggestion, i am talking about in 2 years when he is a senior, will there be a better qb who could throw and run)? Turner the best ol (although he seems to have not had the best year this year)?

  5. I believe you can still call the Pizza Hut Stadium office and buy tickets ( no ticket charge) I got a package of tickets that include hotdogs and pop. Frisco is a nice area, … 30 miles from airport

  6. Why is it that the FCS championship is in Frisco, TX after being in Chattanooga, TN for so many years? The venue seems to seat about the same amount, 20,000 capacity. If Montana would have beat SHSU there would have been a lot more tickets available, but now that SHSU is only a 3 1/2 hour drive to Frisco, tickets may be a little harder to get.
Either way dress warm, temperatures in January around Dallas usually don’t get out of the 40′s.

  7. Tickets should not be hard to get to the FCS championship. SHSU didn’t even sell out their last playoff game against Montana. Attendance was 12,367 and the stadium capacity is 14,000. May be more Bison fans at the game than Bearkats on January 7, FCS playoff football isn’t the same draw in popularity as it is in North Dakota when SHSU is surrounded by FBS programs all over the state. (10 FBS programs located in the state of Texas,).

  8. The FCS championship has only averaged 13,500 attendance the last two years. Is it really going to sell out? Maybe closer to 18,000 -19,000 this year with a local team but I don’t think it will sell out to the stadium capacity. Most NDSU fans will sit home and watch it on television instead of making the trip to Frisco, Texas.

    • this will easily sell out. around 10K NDSU fans. NDSU travels the best of any team in FCS and travel better then many FBS

      • 10,000 NDSU fans will not be traveling to Texas for the game on Jan. 7. That is just delusional. Not that it’s the same as a national championship game, but the game at Eastern Washington last year had a total of 4,060 in attendance, at most 500 NDSU fans?!?! There will be about 6,000 NDSU, 8,000 SHSU, and another 2,000 casual football fans = around 16,000 in attendance on Jan. 7. More tickets will become available, book your trip and worry about the tickets later.

        • 16K in attendance? LOL. this thing will be sold out. 10K ppl have inquired Gene Taylor and our athletic department for tix. 8-10K Bison fans. this thing will be close to selling out,

  9. Could Fargo host it in the dome? Or is there something that says it can’t be at a home field. Playing in a dome removes all weather concerns.

  10. Well there BigTime as of 3PM today all of the tickets have been accounted for. You cannot buy any from the NCAA or the stadium. So if you don’t get one from the NDSU allotment your out of luck.

Yes, the game will sell out because it is basically sold out now 3 weeks ahead of the game.

  11. BigTime. Can you please get me 4 tickets to the FCS Championship Game in Frisco, Texas? You seem to think that nobody will be there so even though the game is already sold out you must be able to get tickets.

Just don’t go to Stubhub and pay the asking price of $300/ticket.

  12. Stub Hub prices are not for the faint-hearted. Prices for the game range from $249 to $942 per seat. Most of the tickets look like there in the end zone but a few good seats are available.

  13. Kolpack,

I think you need to do a little investigation into where all the tickets have gone for the game. I can’t figure out how they sold 12,000 tickets beyond the NDSU and Sam Houston allotment. Peterson’s storry today did not probe that issue.

  14. I live in Dallas, the local news did a bit ( 3 weeks ago ) on the Pizza Hut Stadium & the FCS Bowl Game, they said the hotels were all booked up in Frisco. Now that was at the beginning of the playoffs and hopes of each college making it. As in hotels there has to be a lot of cancellations in tickets too, or the hopes of selling them. There is tickets out there .

  15. Reminds me of the scalpers with Rolling Stones tickets when they played the Fargodome. Opportunists abound at all levels. Supply and demand = pure capitalism.

  16. Not sure what the story is behind the “sell out” of tickets so fast, but there will be empty seats at the game. There is no way that 20,000 will be at the game January 7. More tickets will become available before January 7.

  17. Ticket situation is another example of the NCAA trying to screw NDSU. They should have held tickets until both games were finished. If SHS fans went home after the game friday and started gobbling up tickets thats crap.

  18. SCAM SCAM SCAM. The astronomically ridiculous travel package prices, lack of airplane capactity from Minneapolis and no tickets available has made me very dissapointed in NDSU Alumni Association and Bison Athletics. Solution: A round-trip charter from MSP to Dallas Fort Worth Love field that leaves 5 am MSP and departs DF at 6 pm. Any takers?

  19. Yes, there are not much options flying from Fargo to DFW or Love field, there is not much difference in distance from either airport to game.. But do you want to hear something that was good for me but bad for most. I purchased a special, that the stadium had, 4 tickets that included hotdog and pop for each for 99.00 dollars (total) . Seats on the 20 yard, 16th row.( that was on 12/9/2011) I assume there are many of those tickets out there. Google good out there and find them.

  20. The tickets are selling anywhere from $150-$350 over the last two days on Stubhub. Previous to December 19, tickets were selling for about $75-$100 on Stubhub. There are also a few outliers who have paid upwards of $450 and a few as low as $70.
When the rest of the tickets are released, prices will drop back down to an affordable range or be able to be purchased at face value…around $55.

  21. I get that there is excitement for this team and everyone wants to be able to attend the game, but we are acting like newbies. Anyone who has been around major college football at championship time knows that ticket prices are going to go through the roof…especially for ardent fan bases. One of my co-workers is a Badger fan and his family has season tickets. They bought the Rose Bowl tickets as soon as they could register. They had no intention of going but many of the season ticket holders are encouraged to buy so that the fan base has plenty of tickets available to sell to others. Also, I think it is cool that tickets are hard to come by for this game. As a fan, it makes the game feel even more important. Also, I think that it shows the NCAA, the sponsors, and other investors in college football that the FCS is a viable option for their dollars and this is only going to improve the FCS overall. The NDSU fans who are complaining need to grow up! Life isn’t always fair and just because our team made it to the championship game does not mean that we are entitled to tickets at face value.

  22. Tickets for multiples are selling today on Stubhub for about $400 a ticket and singles for around $125.
Wait until the first of the year to buy your ticket, and you will thank me when you save a few hundred bucks. I know everyone wants to believe that this game will be a sell-out, but 20,000 seats at a neutral site across the country from ND and 200 miles for SHSU, a FCS team in a land of FBS schools, is a lot of seats to fill.
