Eaves back at full speed; Turner hurt

NDSU got a mixed bag of health reviews today in the first full day of football practice after the Christmas break. Senior free safety Daniel Eaves returned at full strength after missing the Georgia Southern and Lehigh University playoff games with a knee injury. But starting left tackle Billy Turner did not practice because of what head coach Craig Bohl called a twisted ankle.

Bohl said he didn’t think the injury “would be an issue.”

He said receiver Trevor Gebhart, who was questionable in returning from a broken leg, will not be back for the national championship game against Sam Houston State.

“There will be certain guys that will be able to go into this game along the lines of 100 percent of what they were,” Bohl said. “They were kind of going game to game.”

  1. Too bad about Gebhart. WR depth could have used him. Can’t see a twisted ankle being too much of an issue this far out, so hope Billy can get the rest and the reps he needs to prepare to play. Good news on Eaves, too. These boys are making memories for a lifetime, for us fans, too.

  2. The news mentioned Leevon practiced today. Any idea how close to 100% he is? He was obviously hurt during the semifinal game. He played sparingly and when he played he wasn’t even close to himself. He will be important this game!

  3. Sorry but Gebhart would not make a bigger impact than Whallo or Moody by just showing up for the NC. You go with the guys who got you there. Get ready for next season 3 & 89. We will need you then.

  4. No reason to be concerned about Turner’s ankle. It wasn’t real serious and he’s got a couple more weeks for it to heal. We’ll be as close to full strength as we’ve been all season heading down to Texas. Thats a scary thought. Good luck Sam Houston.

    • I agree Billy should be able to go. Big reason Montana struggled with the SHSU D. Line was speed, Billy needs to be close to 100% in order to sustain pass blocking and pick-up blitzing (they love to blitz).

  5. How many more days until the game, geez it is taking a long time to get here. I am worse than kids at Christmas or on the road to Frisco. Are we there yet? How much longer? Go Bison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Great to hear Eaves will be back! But, too bad about Gebhart – his excellent hands will be missed. For all Bison fans that want/need tickets in Frisco…keep checking stubhub as they have dropped in price heavily in the last few days…. Bison fans – get your lungs ready!!!
