  1. Great job! Counting down the days, not rushing summer, to the first kickoff!

  2. It really is time to move on from the story you manufactured on the poll from a year ago. It is a non story then and now, and it is old old old news. The fact is it never was news. It never did matter and really doesn’t matter anymore. It is just your opinion and that is all it is. Most people could of cared less then and certainly don’t care a year later. It is totally irrelevant.

    • Read the title. It reads “Bison Video Blog”. If you don’t care for what’s being shown here on the “BISON VIDEO BLOG”, don’t watch/read. Maybe Rob Port has something more to your liking.

      • I agree, I think the UND trolls on the Bison Blog are totally irrevelant and need to move on.

  3. in context it is a story then just like it is now- zero respect from any national scene when it comes the both universities in ND- the idiots at the NCAA cant distinguish between the two schools and the national scene sportswriters are clueless as well. It also shows how worthless the national polls are when it comes to rankings- the overwhelming majority of the sportswriters voting have no idea who they are voting for.

  4. Erv Inninger was asked about the possibility of adding on to the FargoDome and he said it was impossible. The only answer if this continues is a new venue. 40,000 seats and built so it can be expanded to 50,000 seats at a future date when more seating is needed. I think it is only a matter of time before it becomes a serious discussion here in F-M. Go Bison!

    • The dome is supported by over 150 drilled shafts (caisons) in very poor soil. I doubt these caisons could support the additional load of another 10,000 to 30,000 people and the structure to hold those additional people.

  5. It’s looking like it will be a sold crowd for all the games, does that mean ALL games will be on LOCAL tv?

    • All the home games last year except one were televised and still the Bison had great attendance!

  6. Has NDSU addressed the student ticket situation? It is my understanding they allot 4000 free tickets for students. What if all 4000 aren’t taken? Will they give the students until noon on Thursday and then sell the rest to the general public?

    • Those tickets aren’t free. The students pay for them via activity fees.

      • Technically, you are correct. My point is they don’t place cash on the counter and get the tickets, the activity fees are paid at the same time as their tuition. Some have used the excuse that poor student attendance is because they can’t afford it, which is not true since the payment has already been made.

  7. Jeff says, “What are you going to do, blow the roof off the place?” I say he– ya!
Tom says, “People could of cared less.” I could( have) cared more when the blunder by the coaches poll happened but it all proved out in the end.

I cannot wait until the fall and with only one month to go before football gets going, see ya summer and go herd.

  8. We need to make sure EVERY person who votes in these major polls knows the difference between NDSU and UND. Any school that plays D2 teams and loses to NAIA teams should never be ranked.

  9. Great article today by the Daili Lama BUT comparing Hakstol’s salary plus incentives ($450,000) and Bohl’s salary plus incentives ($238,000) is not even close, granted they both do not work out of cubicles.
Comparing Englestad Arena and the Fargo dome is almost laughable…nope…laughable. One arena is one of the best in the country including all college programs and pro arenas…one is the best arena in the state and that is it.
One program plays against the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Minnesota and Boston College the other plays against Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, Northern Iowa and Youngstown State.
The Dalai Lama needs to read the sports page of the Tibetan Times a little more often before attempting to compare the Division IAA FCS program and a Division I hockey program. The fan base is equal and their passion for their teams…but that is about all you can compare. That and they both represent the state of North Dakota.

    • The Fabulious Fargo Dome is the home of the national champions. The hockey rink does not have that distinction and never has. For that reason alone Hakstol is overpaid. He doesn’t win big games. Plus his team doesn’t even have a name!

  10. Number of players in the pros???!!! 4 guys from NDSU in the NFL with nearly 2000 active players on 32 teams (0.2%) as opposed to 18 from UND in the NHL with around 500 active players on 30 teams (3.6%).

  11. Very well thought out response and observation!
UND hockey total attendance blows NDSU Division IAA football away and Division I hockey is watched nationally way more than Division FCS IAA football. In national (international) competition you need to recruit outside the states boarders…hockey and football both recruit from all over the country. Hockey just happens to be an international sport so recruiting in canada is only a natural location.
A FCS national championship is a great accomplishment, why try to bring down other North Dakota sports?

  12. Average season attendance of UND hockey is around 225,00 (20 games) and NDSU FCS football is around 150,000 (8 games). UND hockey students actually go to the game, NDSU always has extra student tickets. Waiting list for UND hockey tickets…no waiting list for NDSU football tickets. Cost for UND hockey tickets is more than NDSU football tickets.
UND hockey plays Michigan, Minnesota, Boston College, Notre Dame…NDSU plays Southern Georgia, Appalachian State, Youngstown…

Just a few observations…no making a point either way as to which sport is more popular.

    • student tickets only sell out a couple times a year bro.

Guess what, those big time schools you listed, don’t care about hockey. Even at minnesota, with it’s decades of atrocious football, hockey still isn’t the biggest deal on campus. Hockey had might as well be lacross or badminton.

      • BTW thats UND hockey student tickets, which are half as numerous as ndsu student tickets

  13. bigtime= bemidji, union, mankato,? with 17 canadians on und roster, its not even a north dakota team! total attendence? what is that, the same 11,000 losers go 2 nights in a row, big deal!

fcs title= 3 times more worth than hockey champion capitol cup!

  14. Yes…bemidji, union and mankato are the lower teams in the league…Geogria Southern, Youngstown and Appalachian are FCS top teams along with NDSU. There are no real Division I programs in FCS.

NDSU football is not exactly a North Dakota team…2012 had about 17 ND natives on it out of about a 100 guys. “11,000 losers a night” is a lot less than the same 18,500 every other Saturday in the fall. Hockey sells out on losing years NDSU football’s attendance drops (ie. 2009-2010) when the team is not winning. Those are just the number not my opinion.

I don’t understand why NDSU fans can’t be proud of both teams?

  15. Forum Communications Poll:
    NDSU Football 61%
    UND Hoockey 39%
This poll just supports what many people are saying. The local media makes hockey a bigger deal than it really is to the local residents.

    • Forum Communications Poll??? What about the GF Herald Poll??? I wonder if the Packers would rank higher in Green Bay than Minneapolis?

  16. Luckily for the NHL, the “Price is Right” is not aired opposite the Stanley Cup Playoffs or that .7% viewer rating would be considerably less. Oh, and “yeah, Team Canada!!’

    • “The NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the first two rounds of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have averaged 1.06 million viewers, making the Conference Quarterfinals and Conference Semifinals the most-watched first two rounds on record (sine 1994, when cable program data started). On NBC, NBC Sports Network and CNBC, the 2012 Conference Semifinals averaged 1.32 million viewers, making them the most-watched Conference Semifinals on record.”

Granted the NHL and college hockey are two different things. So is real BCS Division I football and FCS.

      • you realize that those ratings for the NHL are pretty comparable to the semi-finals and finals of the FCS, right? Or that a mid-week MAC night-game gets double that share?

The FCS gets much more viewership than hockey.

  17. Granted those numbers are an increase for the NHL but they still are an embarrassment for a major sport. Nobody watches. Now if you put up the numbers for the NBA playoffs, a regular season baseball game, golf and racing during the same period as the NHL games, they all beat those NHL numbers by a landslide.

  18. Bigtime, I mean darrel, you can go away, youre wrong on every level. NDSU has 17 ND natives, und has 17 canadians. See the difference? No one outside 11,000 people care, hockey is a very small sport.

  19. Many of the more established D1 hockey programs, like Ferris State, St Cloud State, Mankato, Bemidji State and UNO have football in the Division NDSU dominated for years. Now The Bison have moved on and are the national champions in D1 football, the nations #1 sport. They win the big games. Let’s try and focus on that because many of us have never even seen a hockey game. By definition it’s a niche sport. On the other hand football is #1 and this blog is about the FCS national football champions, The NDSU Bison!
