To see an athlete go from a promising Division II long jumper to one of the world’s best triple jumpers is truly an amazing story when taken into the context from beginning to end. My story on Amanda Smock today touches that topic, mainly on how she got to NDSU.
A clarification on that story and this comes from a former college assistant coach in the region. I wrote Smock, then Amanda Thieschafer, was lightly recruited out of high school. That’s not necessarily true because most of the Division II schools, particularly in the NCC, wanted her bad. The intent of what I wrote was in relation to a world class athlete and how she was viewed coming out of high school. Poor wording on my part.

Great job Amanda! You have already made Bison fans and alumni very proud. We are rooting for a medal now. Good luck in London…continue to make us proud.
Shes amazing get that GOLD!
Congratulations Amanda.
Great accomplishment, so far.
KEEP IT UP!
