  1. Our 3rd down conversion rate has been fantastic, however, I get a little concerned that we put ourselves in too many 3rd and long situations. What is causing that and what can be done to reduce the number of 3rd and 8′s?

  2. Thank you both, I really appreciate the time and effort you guys are putting into the Bison Blog.

  3. I agree – you guys are not “homers”. It’s hard not to feel the buzz coming off this team right now. Question is whether Coach Bohl can keep them playing within themselves and to not allow an inferior squad beat them.

  4. Good blog again. I know it is not popular to have doubt about an undefeated season, but two games, and maybe three come to mind to have to worry about. First is this weekend. After a great decisive victory over #3, it could set up for a letdown, but even more to be aware of and thank goodness both are at home, are Southern Illinois. We won by a hair last year in a defensive struggle. You always have to be ready against a Bubba Schweigert D and we are going to have to throw some wrinkles at them. Lastly is SDSU. We have controlled them the last two years, but the last regular season game against them does not always go so well. If we are undefeated going into that game, you better well believe they are coming with a full tank of gas. Bottom line is we have to continue to crank it up and for sure do not play not to lose. Keep the foot on the gas and the foot on the throat and I think it would be a great idea to have Esley and a few other backers get some quality reps once in awhile to be ready just in case down the stretch.
    Go Bison

  5. I think in listening to the players and reading comments from the Youngstown newspaper beat writer they are pretty grounded.

The Youngstown beat writer said he was shocked at how the Bison treated the win like it was just another conference game on the way to the next week. The Bison are focused and prepared.

The coaches are doing a fabulous job game planning and developing the players. Fans were worried about the offensive line and now with the way they have played thus far they are rarely even mentioned. The offensive line has dominated the opponent the past 2 games. They basically ran the clock in the second half against UNI and YSU with basic running plays and they went right down the field and used a bunch of clock and kicked field goals.

When you watch a team that basically eases off the pedal in the second half and just burns the clock you know they are a good team. The way Brock is playing right now is incredible. He is in total command on the field.

  6. I think Keller tweeked his hamstring again during the game taking a practice swing at the ball before he kicked off towards the N end zone late in the second half. He really hobbled off the field after that. He stubbed his toe on the practice kick and I think that is what did him in.

I am concerned about Bohl’s comments regarding the Sagarin ratings. When Kolpack interviewed him he should have brushed them off as meaningless rather than giving them credibility and saying they mean something. His players listen to him and now they will be hearing how good they are and that runs the risk of them being full of themselves. The last time I think Bohl screwed up like this was before the Missouri State game, a miserable team, in 2010. The Bison were 7-3 and a win guaranteed a post-season shot. When Kolpack asked Bohl if they had to win to make the playoffs he said no they didn’t. Technically, he turned out to be correct, but the Bison came out flat and lost 3-0 to a terrible team. My bet is that the Bison will come out flat against Indiana State, and if they do, the blame can be pointed directly at Bohl. Just a plain dumb comment.

    • If NDSU loses to Indiana State, it won’t be because of four sentences Bohl said about the Sagarin.

    • You’re pretty naive if you think the players don’t know that the team is ranked nationally already so any preconceived notions that they have are going to be there whether Bohl comments on it or not. As far as him commenting publicly on it, if the players pay more attention to a blurb from him in the paper than they do to his, and the other coach’s, instructions during practice all week they have complacency problem that goes beyond what the head coach says to Kolpack.

    • They will lose because of his comment??? That has to be one of the dumbest posts Ive seen in a while.

  7. Massey has the Bison at #26, .04 (four-hundreths of a point) behind the 3-way tie at #25.

  8. If Bohl’s comments about Sagarin ratings are the worst thing we can find to nitpick about the Bison then I would say we are in good shape come Saturday.

I can’t believe how much time Brock has to throw. The offensive line has turned out to be one of the main reasons for the Bison success.

  9. When you live in Kansas City, you are surrounded by a slug of Missouri Tiger fans sooo proud of joining the SEC this year. So, today I showed up with the Sagarin ratings showing the Bison ahead of Missouri. It was quite enjoyable and there were no come-backs from anyone.

    • That’s awesome. I live in the Twin Cities and am amongst some die-hard (and depressed or delusional one would think) Gopher fans. Gopher fans just don’t get it. And I say that even though I am hopefull that Kill can get the Gophers to a relevant/respectable level (he’s much more Missouri Valley than Big 10 – exactly what the Gophers need). At least Missouri fans are smart enough to know when they’ve lost an argument.
