Unusually good talent in the Valley especially for a year when UNI won’t even have a winning record.
I predict NDSU, YSU, SDSU and Indiana get into the playoffs and Illinois St. and SIU are left out.
I think that North Dakota State and South Dakota State moving to Division I and into the Missouri Valley Football Conference has finally caught up with Northern Iowa. For many years Northern Iowa had its pick of talent after Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Iowa State were done recruiting. Now Northern Iowa has to fight NDSU, SDSU now USD for those same recruits. Other teams in the Valley have had to compete with far more schools in there regions so are use to these battles (The concentration of DI football schools in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio is greater than in ND, SD, MN, WI). It will be interesting who Northern Iowa moves forward in the future and if they start to widen its recruiting base.
