My weekly ballot in The Sports Network top 25 poll. The top four remain the same, but a lot of shaking around after that with losses to Old Dominion, Illinois State, James Madison and South Dakota State.

Did ODU not beat Towson 31-20 this week?
Sdsu needs to be off list, fools gold is what their early start was.
Cal Poly – #1 Not even close. What’s you’re love affair with them?
Poly at number 1?? Have you seen their resume? Very weak. They haven’t Played a single team that is any good. Not one. Their opponent’s record is a combined 17 – 36. EWU is coming up and they are way over rated too.
Cal Poly is #2 in the Gridiron Power Index. They’re undefeated with an FBS win. No other team in FCS can say that.
Cal Poly was #4 in the GPI last week. The most I would see them move up is to #3 but they would need a big jump in the media and coaches polls this week. NDSU should remain #1 in the GPI with EWU #2 for sure.
NDSU at #3? Have you seen their resume? Very weak. They haven’t Played a single team that is any good. Not one. Their opponent’s record is a combined 12-30.
It is interesting to see that you have so many Big Sky teams in the top 12… I thought you were of the feeling that the MVFC was the best conference yet you have 4 Big Sky teams and only 2 MV teams in top 12. Congrats to NDSU on a nice win after a poor showing last week, but I do have to cheer for Dale Lennon next week. Jay
I think Slippery Rock should be ranked # 18, just behind Stony Brook.
I have no problem with Poly being top 5 but they need to be behind EWU because EWU is undefeated in the FCS with an FBS win and an FBS loss. They have played a much tougher schedule than Poly and FBS losses aren’t supposed to hurt you. It should be EWU, NDSU, Poly. Jeff you even used that argument for Harvard, “Play somebody”. I say the same for Poly. If they beat EWU then I’ll be impressed.
NDSU shouldn’t be ranked ahead of an undefeated team with an FBS win. The Bison’s SOS is not overly impressive. They have a home loss and the win over Youngstown State is looks a lot less impressive a few weeks later.
Cal Poly is the Ohio State of the FCS. Don’t play anyone good. There’s a reason they’re not top 5. If they beat EWU and go undefeated they deserve to be #1, but until then I have no reason to believe NDSU wouldn’t kick the crap out of Poly, because they would.
Cal Poly will have to prove itself by playing EWU and NAU in the next few weeks to stay at the top. I see EWU winning at home against Cal Poly. I think Cal Poly will beat NAU.
MT. State has the biggest cream puff schedule of any top 20 FCS team in the nation. The only top ranked team they will play this year is EWU and they lost to them at home. The best team they have beat is unranked UC Davis, 48 to 41. Its sad that this will likely be a seeded team for the playoffs.
NAU’s isn’t far behind. The only team they face with a winning record is Cal Poly to end the season outside of playing Arizona State and getting smoked. I think the Big Sky is made up of a lot of really bad teams this year with EWU, Cal Poly, Mont St, and NAU being the best of the rest. All 4 will make the playoffs with 9-2 or better records and I think the only one that will make it to the Semi-Finals is EWU.
My vote is for NDSU back at 1. UND beat a big sky team for crying out loud. Although they should be polling at number 1, you still have a fair amount of undecided voters out there and it is all going to come down Florida or Ohio to see who wins this poll or um election. After that veer off, back to the polls. I agree with many of the bloggers here. What is the deal with Cal Poly SLO. It is a nice place to visit, but I would not want to see them at No. 1. Go Herd
Illinois State at #16? And no sign of Southern Illinois?
Northern Arizona got a nice break in their schedule, no Eastern Washington or Montana State this year. I really hate the fact that so many conferences now don’t allow for every team to play one another. Makes the conference race a mess with no true way to crown a conference champion.
Jeff and Don, I am OK with you having Cal-Poly and E. Washington ahead of the Bison that is how polls work. What I want to know is if the Bison played both of them at a neutral site what would you pick the score to be? I would say Bison would beat Calpoly 45-7 and beat Eastern Washington 38-13. I have seen how the Sioux have done in a league where no one plays defense. Bison would smoke these guys. Missouri Valley is a much better conference top to bottom. Go Bison!
Looking at strength of schedule…NDSU hasn’t played anyone of importance in the FCS or FBS. The teams NDSU has beat are a combine 18-32 with only two games against winning 2012 programs (YSU and ISU) and one of them NDSU lost.
The #4 ranking is about as high as you can expect with that resume.
There was more bison fans at sioux falls (6000+) and Colorado state then most teams get. If NDSU got into the Mountain West there’d be 5000+ at Colorado , Reno , Colorado St , Wyoming games…..why wouldnt the Mountain West want that PLUS a team that could compete nationally??
You have got to get another subject you can expound on Sam. You are like an old mono 45 stuck on the same groove playing the same phrase over and over ad nauseum.
6000??? more like 3500+
Jeff Kolpack said it was more like 4,500. Not 6,000, but still impressive considering USD hasn’t won a conference game! Go Bison!
Bigtime = und troll go away
YSU was a good completely dismantled by the Bison ruining their entire season. The only win over YSU that is of national importance is The Bison win. The rest come after and don’t count.
How many wins over top 25 teams does ndsu have so far this year?
How many wins does NDSU have a against a team currently with a winning record? Answer: One
But is that NDSU’s fault? They can only play who they have scheduled. UNI is a good team I don’t care what their record says. Just like last year we will have to wait and see how the Bison do in the post season . . . if they make it apparently there are still doubters out there!. That is what is great about a playoff system, last yeat the Bison got to shut every other team and their fans up! The sweetest thing of all is with 5 minutes left in the game and the other team is beaten and their fans are silent!
Go Bison!
BIGTIME, this year’s Bison is at least as good if not better than last year’s national champs. Unfortunately, the only argument you have that they aren’t as good is the records of the teams they’ve played this year. The polls would sure look different if all anyone looked at was the records of everyone’s opponents.
No one is saying that NDSU is not good if not better than the 2011 team, just saying that their schedule has been pretty weak in 2012 and can’t say other’s schedules are weak without looking at our own.weak schedule.
i don’t think anyone is arguing that ndsu isn’t great and doesn’t deserve to be ranked high. but saying Cal Poly and Northern Arizona have easy schedules, but to not also say ndsu has an easy schedule this year with the missouri valley clearly down in talent and consistency, is hypocritical.
Reason…it’s tough to have an intelligent well thought out discussion on this board. At least you are one person who can understand a logical statement.
mvc clearly down? i would say opposite. siu, ysu, sdsu, isub all improved. ndsu is imo the best team in the country but should be ranked 2 or 3 right now. i dont see cal poly or msu making the semis. only team from big sky i see doing that is ewu. it will all play out in the end
Haters are jealous losers
