So the Bison/ No Namer game was not electric?
Dont get me wrong, as an SU alumni, I was happy to see a victory, but to me it was just a win that will help move NDSU to bigger things down the road.
As for the rivalry, who cares! I know many out there just cannot stop talking about this rivalry. If the so-called rivalry causes the refs to call such a tight game that if you brushed the opponent you were going to get a foul (both ways by the way) then skip the game as they were not even allowed to play for most of the game. If the rivalry game cannot draw over 5000 in the Dome,UND fans had some weather to contend in driving, but NDSU fans sure could have made the trek to the Dome, then skip the game. If the team from up North has to cave to a small group and then a much larger mafia (NCAA) and lose their nickname, then skip this game if it helps them make any money from it. If the once powerful womens teams cannot consistently beat opponents that come into both fieldhouses and when they play each other the game is ugly, then why have it?
The bottom line, is maybe some of the players have been told that this was once a rivalry and they were able to help motivate themselves a bit by the game, but it is not and probably will never be again the rivalry it once was. So for all of you who just cannot quit trying to hype this as a rivalry again, give it a rest. Many people can jab at each other and even still get vicious, but beyond that the games are just games or a W or L in the win loss columns.
The BB team has been the pits for what??? 3 years???Put a good team on the floor and the people will come. They had at least 5,000 fans that watched a very UNEXCITING game. Snooze. 5 grand after a huge FB playoff game plus nasty cold. Pretty good turn out considering they only draw 2500 to a regular game.
Nobody there und is dead to us NDSU fans. Just stop playing them in sports, attendance is proof we don’t care.
1500 actual at womens game , 2500 actual at mens.
Hope ndsu admin listens to us.
You are in the minority. Why would they listen to you?
I agree: meaningless. They don’t compete in conference play with any Dakota schools. They were atrocious sportsman apparently in all sports having lost annual WCHA games to the Gophers in hockey. They play SDSU & USD in football too but that’s not a big deal either. They quit the Dakotas in a typical hissy fit fashion and everybody knows it. They burned bridges and are now an historical backwater in NDSU athletics.
I thought the announcers sounded a bit ridiculous trying to pump the rivalry angle. Who cares about a team we have nothing in common with? It’s a long season, we need a lot of OOC games and they are an easy D1win but it would be more fun to bring in a good team.
I agree…I think to most NDSU alumni/fans, the rivalry is dead. There is too much bad blood and we just don’t want to deal with it anymore. UND can have the Big Sky; we are happy where we are at in our conferences, and our new rivals (that we have a lot more respect for).
