Well that was fun. If the FCS ever wanted a chance to latch on to casual college football fans, that was the game to do it, it had everything, great plays, huge hits, huge momentum swings and a thrilling finish. In the end, Brock Jensen was terrific when it mattered most scoring the game winning touchdown with just over 3 minutes left and NDSU is heading back to Frisco for a 2nd straight year. Somehow they’ve managed to gut out wins all year, going back to Southern Illinois, Missouri State, the first SDSU game, Wofford and now GSU. The Bison will now play the winner of Eastern Washington and Sam Houston State, Jeff, E and I have a full breakdown and more coming in the next couple of days as Kolpack will have to get the old cowboy hat back out, cause the Media Blog is heading to Texas!
Nice job again on the coverage boys. You do have the best coverage in the region and look forward to the coverage leading up to Frisco. See ya in Texas. Great job Bison.
Dom, Jeff, & Eric, another excellent Bison video blog as usual! “The Chamber of Commerce in Frisco is happy”…”Bison fans drank the town dry”….”Northerners like their cocktails”…I laughed out loud! Keep up the good work, you guys do a great job! I look forward to your coverage in Frisco! See you there!
GO BISON!
I was at the far end of the student section. I got a close up view of the Bald Eagles during their warm and I also got a close view of Bison players. I felt the Bald Eagles team looked more muscular and physicaly strong compared to the Bison players. It was no surpise that during te second touchdown J. McKinnon was face to face with Marcus Williams near the goal line and instead of blocking him Marcus got pushed with one hand and Marcus could not do anything. Same thing happend during the last play when their quarterback threw a long pass towards the sidelines Marcus just fell down when he was pushed in one hand by that Bald Eagle receiver. Brock threw two long passes and again i saw our receivers getting pushed arround easily, miss the timing and drop the pass. Case in point, Bison did not look muscular or physically strong. Yet we won this game, I think our Coaches did an awesome job of outplaying them.I still think Brent Vigen is a suspect
I could not see John Crockett’s runs, his runs always occured at the far end of the stadium from where I was but I got a good look at Sam Ojuri’s run.
I tell you what, Sam Ojuri’s run was pure sublime. He came out of nowhere. He came running straight in front of me. It looked like a smooth bullet train comming right at you. It was just a pure beauty watchin him run like that.
Great game, great coverage guys.
But to be brutally honest, Brock has got to play better if NDSU is going to have any chance at repeating. He is simply a liability in the passing game and it is obvious he has lost confidence in himself and his receivers. In the past six games he is completing only 55% of his passes, 5 TDs, 5 INTs and is averaging a paltry 101 yds/gm passing (4 of six games <100 yds/gm). A similar dismal performance from the QB in the national championship game won't cut it, especially against SHSU who will beat EWU despite what Dom and Jeff say. Sorry Bison fans.
Brock looked a little off on the first series but otherwise had another solid game. I think he zeros in on Smith too much. Remember we have played the top defensive teams week after week since the USD game.
Brock’s ability to run the ball during the playoffs has been the difference. That run on 4th and 3 at the goal was an amazing job by Brock and the linemen.
I agree, SHSU beats EWU.
Yes, you are correct. Brock’s statistics have been poor over the past 5 weeks. In fact in the Title Game last year, Brock was 10 of 20 for 120 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. 39 yards of the 120 yards and the TD came on DJ’s screen. However with a player like Brock Jensen he is a leader. If you saw the emotion from the team rallying around Brock after his touchdown, you recognized that he is the leader of this team. When players hear the HC coach say “I want the ball in Brock’s hands”, they also know not only with their heart, but see with their mind who is the leader. In the end, winning is about who prevails at the end. Brock is also 27 – 2 in the last two years with a National Championship ring. He may not have the passing stats, but he has the intangibles and he wins.
The thing is most of last year and for the start of this year Brock was throwing lasers and had a high completion rate. I love his leadership and the fact that he wins I just wish the accurate passer would show up on Jan 5, 2013.
I was in his corner early when he was competing with Jose Mohler. Earlier this year I was thinking he was looking like a potential NFL QB. He has a strong arm and knows how to lead and read a defense. Accuracy is very important in the NFL though.
Brock has to thow and the recievers have to catch, thats not happening right now, rest dosent matter. Either this or GATA for Brent Vigen.
trust, heart, “i want ball in hands”..is pure nonsense.
end of discussion
Over the past 3 years Brock has shown some moments of being a great quarterback. He is a gamer and a hard nosed player. But at the same time I wish the coaching staff would have put in Wentz at different times when Brock was struggling this year. I do not agree at all when people say Brock is 27-2. The Bison TEAM is 27-2. If we had an average defense this team would be sitting at home watching the playoffs on TV. I have a ton of faith and respect for the coaching staff, but I wish they would try different things when a QB is struggling.
I know it’s hard to believe some of us are complaining when we are headed to Frisco, but I believe this team could be even better than they are if Brock would sit for a series or two when he is struggling.
I agree, Brock’s got something going on. Mental or physical, i don’t know. His passes just don’t seem to have the zip or accuracy they had earlier in the year. Shoulder problem they hiding? He needs to elevate his game a heal his mind or body in the next 3 weeks or the Bison will go down. SHSU is destroying EWU right now. The D will have it’s hands full. The offensive will have to put up some points!
wish i could type………….
Somebody from the geology department brought a ritcher scale and meaured the vibration during the game and it showed a reading of 6.3, there we go folks , there was earthquake yestersday in Fargo arround the Fargodome area only between 7pm -10:30pm
Bison win a tough game. It is hard to believe they pulled it off after giving up 430 yards and only gaining 277 yards. I keep thinking back and trying to remember how GSU didn’t score more than 20 points with 430 yards.
I agree with Old Guy that the passing game needs to be a point of emphasis during the practices leading up to the championship game. I think the passing game has been suspect since the Indiana State game and I’m not sure why. I do think he is trying to not force throws since the defense is so good but the last two games the offense didn’t stay on the field enough. One by product of losing confidence in the passing game is the play calling becomes more predictable with a (run, run, pass) happening too often. The coaches have decided to make up for some of that with deception (similar to an option attack) within the running game, mainly Brock’s runs.
I think the last two games the opponents took advantage of Leevon Perry being out. GSU wisely ran a bunch of dive because Wofford had their way with the Bison defense on the dive. I also think the Wofford game was a tough one to get over physically. I’m sure Grant Olson was still feeling it from last week.
None of that matters now. The Bison are heading back to Frisco and our coaches and players will be ready for whoever they play.
Hail The Bison! The March Is Still On!
I dont care what others think, I just wanted to throw it out there.
Bison players look like models compared to the Bald Eagles. The Bald Eagles were more athletic and well built.
Alot of GSU players did look big and fast, looked like FBS players.
Are you looking for a football player or a date? A jersey shore dbag may look more muscular than Grant Olson…I’ll take Olson at linebacker.
Nobody here on this board like to see our Bison players fall down with a slight push, especially wide receivers. If those cats keep falling all over then Brock is gonna take the heat.
I usually do not rip on other bloggers, but 2928, your rants are sometimes goofy. They were wearing all white. Ask any woman and they will tell you how you look bigger in white. Cmon Man. As for Old Guy, I have agreed with you almost always on the blog, and agree again that Brock is struggling in passing, but you guys sound like viking fans, of which I am not, and whining about everything. We are heading to frisco with 3 weeks to get ready to try and defend our title. How many teams would like to have that chance. We are still a young team with all of those guys getting championship experience. Lets show a little positivity and lose the Viking montra for awhile. Cmon Man.
Go Bison
Its all good NewNameGuy.
It doesn’t matter what the GSU players looked like, the NDSU Bison beat them!
Yes, thats why we need to thank our coaching staff they have done a good job of eeking out a win inspite of the obvious flaws. I still despice Brent Vigen.
Bison2928, do you know Brent Vigen uses spice while cooking & why do you want to ‘despice’ him? Do you eat at his house and not like spices or did you actually mean despise? You better get your money back from UND where you didn’t learn to spell. While there, you can see how masculine all the ‘fighting who’ players are. GO BISON!
TOFRISCOIGO all am saying is, Brent Vigen has not raised the standard of the game like the Bison Defense has.
I dont think he is providing our QB with the right kind of help or resources, either Brent Vigen or our WR should be taken to task. Somewhere between these lies the solutions to our glaring weakness ( passing game).
That Bison win last night made me Happy Happy Happy! (Phil Robertson, Duck Dynasty) A win in Frisco on 1/5/13 would make me Happy Happy Happy Happy!
GO BISON!
SHSU 35-EW-0 at halftime. 1:05 left in the 3rd. 35-21. MY OH MY!!!
So we are saying the Bison beat another “FBS” team by beating Georgia Southern? Old Dominion is moving to FBS next year and Georgia Southern wants to bad, and so does Appalachian St., and where are they? Sitting on the couch preparing for their move to being irrelavant. Yes, Georgia Southern is a big, strong, muscular, team and … they have been eliminated by the little Bison.
Bison have played GSU 3 times and have won all 3. This was the closest of the 3 games.
Congrats on the win. The ThunderDome was rockin’ last night! I agree with NewNameGuy. I have season tix and sit next to some awful fans. Constantly questioning play calls, yelling at Jensen because of an incompletion, etc. Seriously. None of you are calling plays or playing on the field, so anything you say just sounds foolish. NDSU is playing in the Championship game in back-to-back years. The coaches must be doing something right. Be happy they are there. I, too, am not a Vikings fan and seem to see this with people in this area who happen to be Vikes, Twins, and Wild fans. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Enjoy it while it lasts!
NDSU wins again 27-2. When is move to FBS ? NDSU has proved domination of this league, they have the fan base, they have the players. The Mac champ is in the ORANGE BOWL. Did you hear that haters who say “meaningless” bowl games?
Ga so , appy state, odu are going fbs. NDSU has to as well.
I dont think being co-champions one year and out right champions this year is domination. I believe we needed to win out last game of the season to take the crown this year. Domination? hardly.
I agree with the statement that Brock Jensen needs to get better. He missed some passes that he should be able to complete and I noticed he has missed some wide open receivers in the last month or so. However, I will give the Bison a lot of credit that they find a way to get the win. I’m hoping the three weeks off will help them work on things. I think the defense also has to get better defending the option which they will see in Frisco.
Excellent game! That GSU team is among the best The Bison have ever played. The game was the most outstanding game ever played in the FFD and that’s something to say considering the great games we have seen there including the classic Marker Games where stakes were so high. Stakes were high Friday too. Another NC Game, We now know it’s SHSU. They won after falling asleep in an announced route and letting it get closer than it was.
Tickets are purchased and motels booked. Go Bison!
Maybe Bison 2928 should be writing for the Vikings and the Goofers.
I only love Bison football
for now.
Bison 2928 and Sid Hartman should do a sports show together.
I wonder how many of GSU’s players are former FBS second string or dropped from an FBS program due to infractions. SHSU had a number of such players last year which are still around, I believe. SHSU came out of nowhere to reach the championship game last year based on Fritz’s pursuit of these types of players. SHSU is pretty much the same team (personnel wise) as last year. NDSU graduated several key players and there are two key injuries this year (Perry and Heagle). NDSU will have to play its best game of the year/playoffs. Coaching, preparation, and the extra time to recover from a tough bracket run will help.
If you check the rosters of the 4 teams in the semi final games they are all pretty young. There is a good chance that all 4 could be back in the semi finals again next season.
The Bison basically bring back their entire team so they will probably be one of the favorites to make/win the national championship next season. This run of a quality team is very similar to what Jeff Bentrim and the Bison did in the 1980′s. Bentrim led the Bison to the national championship game 4 years in a row and won 3 of them only losing to Troy State on a last second 50 yard field goal in one of them. If Brock is able to win 3 national championships he will be mentioned along side of Jeff Bentrim in Bison lore.

I watched the SH/EW game on ESPNU, or at least the first half. It was 35-0 and thought this isn’t worth watching and do we really want to play these guys in 3 weeks? I came back with 4 min left in the game and itwas 45-35. EW scored again on the next play for a 45-42 final. Recalled last year they played Montana st in the semi’s and were ahead 31-3 or something and thought the same would be a blowout but it ended 31-28.. Apparently SH only plays a half a game. The commentator said they would be a real test for the Bison’ #1 defence. True enough, but the wont run up anything like 35-0. If the Herd can hang with them in the 1st half they should come out on top.
Also I don’t think the noise is all that much of an advatage. Remember the Bison are undefeated on the road over two years.
Creighton and st louis (or evansville) are leaving mvc pres meeting monday gene or dean better be there ndsu needs in.
Also NDSU needs same tailgating spot in frisco !! Make it happen NDSU
Every time someone says “Brock better do this or we won’t be successful”, he goes out there and leads us to another win. Wondering when the doubters are going to realize that this guy is a proven leader. 27-2 record, 2 conference championshis, a national championship, and a chance for a repeat all happened the past two years. Brock is a big reason why. And I would much rather play in a system where playoffs determine an actual national champion then play in the Orange Bowl.
Brock is just a part of the reason for this great run. I feel the defense is by far the biggest reason this team is where it is today. Some of the 27 wins are a result of his play, but most of the wins are because of a great team effort and one of the best defenses in the country. Yes he is a leader, but there are more leaders than just Brock.
These are my people. This is my team. Lets go Bison, one last time.
Not. Singe word about our all American CB’s miserable tackling. Come on, MW, man up! You think NFL scouts will miss that…?
I did mention about him in my thrid post from the top. He got pushed arround very easily.
