2013 Countdown: #96

2013 Countdown: #96

2012 marked the second straight year that NDSU racked up two 1,000 yard rushers and as much as the defense has received credit for NDSU’s back to back championships; it can’t be overlooked how good the rushing attack has been from the offensive line to the guys carrying the ball and that leads to today’s stat on the countdown:

Joe Haeg was part of an offensive line that didn’t change for 14 of 15 games last season for NDSU.

Countdown To 2013: NerdStat Number 96:

  • 1; that’s the number of lineup changes to the offensive line last season for the Bison; 14 of the 15 games the same lineup started for NDSU; Billy Turner at left tackle; Josh Colville at left guard; Joe Lund at center; Tyler Gimmestad at right guard and Joe Haeg at right tackle. Remember heading into last season that was a huge concern for the Bison replacing two guys with 7 years of starting experience in Austin Richard and Paul Cornick; the latter an All-American and Colville and Haeg not only did the job but excelled as the year went along. Haeg may be the more impressive story; a walk-on from Brainerd; who showed some signs in spring football in 2012 according to O-Line coach Scott Fuchs; then really blossomed in fall camp last year to the point where they where comfortable to him getting the nod to start the season. NDSU gave up just 24 sacks in 15 games last season made even more impressive considering two redshirts started the entire season and the one game that lineup didn’t start; South Dakota; a true freshman; Zach Johnson started for Colville; and Fuchs believes he’s got the talent to be very special.
