Bison Video Blog: Frisco; Day 1

Well hello everyone from the Lone Star State, word of advice, bring a coat, it’s cold down here, much colder than last year. Each of the teams are here and ready to go the official media activities start tomorrow and we’ll be ready for full coverage. Just a heads up on a piece of information, NDSU AD Gene Taylor told me tonight it looks highly unlikely that Western Carolina will come to Fargo next September 21st; meaning the Bison now need to replace that game, it’s worth noting that the University of North Dakota has that as an open date for next season. You may begin.

  1. The word on the katfans.com,say the SHSU Team is staying at the Embassy Suites right next to the Dr.Pepper Stadium. Will that hamper the sleep and focus for the Cubbie Kats???

  2. Dom this is the National Championship game for the NDSU Bison. The focus should be on the Bison. The team to the north has nothing to do with NDSU being in the National Championship and does not need to be mentioned to sully a great weekend for the Bison. The fans of that team already destroy most of the blog posts with drivel that doesn’t belong on a Bison Media Blog.

Grant Olson looked pretty good in the short clip you had of him. I saw on his twitter feed that he said the prayers and time with the doctor had done their job. Hopefully this is a non-issue and he is 100% healthy and ready to play.

  3. Dom, do you have any idea about UND’s reputation….

Their only claim to fame is Ice Hockey and they are in the same conference as Bemidji State, …Bemidji State is a school that is really struggling to stay alive…they look like a school that will be shut down pretty soon …UND and Bemidji state are trying to get Gophers and other Big Schools to play in their league and so far unsuccessful…no big schools would consider playing with them or joining their conference …now this is Ice Hockey which they claim is their forte….

What is the big deal playing college football against such team….I dont see any benefit to NDSU …..unless we plan on some play time for our substitutes.

    • One of the worsts posts i’ve seen. UND has great tradition in Football and Basketball. Actually they have more hall of famers in Basketball than Hockey, and without looking it up they probably have close to as many guys that have played in the NFL & CFL over the years as the Bison. As for number of pro athletes all sports combined, NDSU doesn’t even come close to UND.

As for the hockey conference stuff, you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. Bemidji State won’t even be in their conference next year. I’ll just stop with that, as responding to this post made me even dumber.

  4. Ok we get it, desperation hurts. Rest easy bisonation. Gene will have a pioneer league team in dome.

  5. If the Ubd wants to play why don’t they package up a decent offer for a game at their place. That would be an away tame for NDSU. The offer probably needs to be around $250,000. It’s that simple. They pay the right price. Without an offer in good faith there is no further serious discussion. Do they want the game for free? I’m sure GT has made that good faith offer to them.

  6. Some say the biggest deal In ND is hockey. I say it’s NDSU pep rallies in TX! More fans, more fun and a much bigger party!

Instead of hockey games UND should take football recruits to NDSU pep rallies. It would give them a better feel for the full student experience up there: watching NDSU succeed while they all cry and moan!

    • FYI. UND had to rent out a huge conference center in the Twin Cities for the frozen four a few years back, and probably had 10,000 plus at that. They also get huge crowds at their parties for the Final Five each year which is only the conference tournament. Not to mention all of the other bars in downtown St. Paul that are full of UND fans. The Grand Forks media just doesn’t pump that up, like the Fargo media has this little pep rally.

  7. Ok, so we allow und on our schedule one year; would that satisfy all you crybaby und fans. NOOOOO !! “We want to be on it every year!” WAAAA WAAAAAA

  8. Hey mkj. There is much difference between a gathering in the Twin Cities and 1,200 miles away in Texas!!

      • The gathering happens every year in the Twin Cities…the gathering in Texas has happened twice…is that the difference?

Dust off the Nickel the rivalry will be renewed in 2013. Why would you not want to have North Dakota’s oldest and most storied rivalry start up once again? If you argue against the game for some reason…you are in fact actually showing just how deep the rivalry runs.

        Good luck Bison on Saturday!!!!

  9. What’s with all the hostility towards Dom? Maybe it wasn’t the perfect time to bring up a UND scheduling bit, but don’t have a cow man!

  10. We are playing for a national championship yet we remain fixated on our neighbors to the north. They have moved on. Lets do the same.

    • Have you forgotten NDSU’s “fixation” on the neighbors to the north after last year’s National Championship game? When the only thing NDSU fans could pull together in unison after winning a nationals championship was “Sioux S*ck!…Sioux S*ck!, Sioux S*ck!”

There is no moving on…this is the true meaning of a rivalry that has been around for over a hundred years and has only been on a short hiatus for the last few years.

      • Once again – nothing to talk about except the state’s Flagship University.

  11. Wday forum are baiting they need to sell papers get ratings and they keep thinking the 1985 way of doing it and begging for ndsu to play und because und has nothing and they are home of und on wday radio. So that’s why they desperately bring it up over and over. More basketball fans went to sdsu game than und, without the 1000 students that proves the rivalry is dead. Not to mention the success ndsu got wants they renoved the cancerous anchor 70 miles away

Now do a new blog so this gets buried

  13. I have always said I don’t want to play the Sioux again unless it is in the playoffs. But if we need a game next year why not play them. It would be at the FargoDome and next year’s team should be one of the best Bison teams ever. So I say let’s play them and absolutely kick the snot out of them. Let’s give them the beat down they deserve and be done with it. Never and I mean never sign a home and home with them. If they wanna play us it is only in Fargo. Those are NDSU’s terms so take it or leave it. We don’t need them we have sellouts against anyone we play! I see Bison 63-6 unless Coach Bohl calls off the dogs. Go Bison!

    • No need to waste our time. UND has bas no traditional rivals on there schedule besides a game here and there with SDSU and USD. Even in hockey they no longer play any of there rivals sceptic Bemedji. There’s a reason for that.

    • Yes sir, Its time to play the game. Both have open dates. No excuses this time around unless GT can come up with a bigger game.
      Go Bison!!!!!!!!!!

  14. UND is like a bad ex from a toxic relationship. You just need to avoid them at all costs. There is so much unneeded negativity between both the schools and the fans that it is just turning people off from it. Rivalries are supposed to be fun, not make your blood boil. Let them have their conference and we’ll keep ours. It’s better that way. And to some of the idiots with the stupid posts above me, how about you STFU. Try an intelligent comment for once.

  15. CHILDREN (both sides), get over it and shut up!!! This NDSU vs. UND bickering is pathetic. I’m an NDSU grad and huge Bison supporter. I went to grad school at UND but really care nothing about UND athletics with the exception of hockey where I’ve always been supportive and proud of their accomplishments and the way they have represented my home state. Is it really not possible to give both schools their due and not act like a bunch of 12 year olds? I suppose I should have just lived above this fray and stayed out of this argument but reading these posts left me with my mouth hanging open, aghast at the immaturity. With all of that said and for better of worse. . . GO BISON!!! Bring home number 2 (championships that is).
