2018 FCS Bracketology: 7.0

2018 FCS Bracketology: 7.0

The FCS Playoff Committee released its top ten rankings last night with a little bit of a surprise, seeding James Madison ahead of UC Davis. I believe if Davis wins out, they’ll be the number two seed, they’d have the best resume next to North Dakota State, with their only loss to an FBS school, Stanford. The bracket is starting to take shape, I believe the Colonial is going to get five teams, with the Valley at four.

Digest. Debate. Discuss.

Missouri Valley: North Dakota State

Colonial: James Madison

Big Sky: UC Davis

Ohio Valley: SE Missouri State

Patriot: Colgate

Northeast: Sacred Heart

Southland: McNeese

SoCon: Wofford

Big South: Kennesaw State

Pioneer: San Diego

Weber State

Eastern Washington

North Dakota

Stony Brook

South Dakota State

Northern Iowa

Jacksonville State

East Tennessee State

Western Illinois

NEW TEAMS IN: Sacred Heart, Western Illinois and Nicholls

TEAMS OUT: Bryant, Illinois State and Central Arkansas

I think this type of a bracket would work out well for the Bison. Having James Madison, UC Davis and SDSU on the other side of the bracket will make the road to Frisco have a fewer speed bumps.

UC Davis is not a #2 seed and even if they run their schedule they will only have 1 quality win over Eastern Washington. Davis beat a bad FBS team that is 1-7, a non scholarship San Diego team, and Idaho, Northern Colorado, Idaho St., Cal Poly and Montana in the Big Sky, who are a combined 17 – 24. They have Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington and Sac St left to play. Even if they win at Eastern Washington their resume is far from a #2 seed. They may end the year with having beat only one scholarship FCS playoff team. Is that worthy of being in the talk for a top 8 seed?

Hawks would have to beat N. Iowa and SDSU to earn the right to play J. Madison. Unlikely they could come close to winning any of those games.

There is no way the committee puts all of the Valley teams AND UND on the opposite side of the bracket. Your bracket doesn’t account for enough bus travel and is too expensive for the NCAA travel-wise. You’re being too much of a homer Dom.

I didn’t put all of the Valley teams on the opposite side. Western Illinois and NDSU are on one side, UNI and SDSU on the other. I believe they’ll send UND-UNI to SDSU.
