Spencer Eliason

It took less than 18 hours for NDSU to recover after Jon Sobaski was let out of his letter of intent to fill his scholarship as Chadron, Nebraska’s Spencer Eliason verbally committed.

Eliason is 6’9, 230 pounds and says he sprouted from 5’11 as a freshman to his current height. Eliason is the younger brother of current Minnesota Gophers forward Elliott Eliason, Spencer was an all-state honorable mention this past season, averaging 17.5 points and 9 rebounds per game. Here’s my interview with Spencer from earlier today; he’s the 4th commit now for the Class of 2014.

  1. Well, that was fast! And it sounds like coach improved the team, too.

  2. While Elliot is not an all-american, he is a solid big man for a B1G team that just won the NIT tournament.

I expect Spencer to develop into a great center for the NDSU Bison!

    • I think “solid” is even stretching it for Elliot Eliason. When the Gophers started winning at the end of the season, Eliason was on the bench. He played 0 minutes in the semi-final game against Florida State and 8 minutes in the NIT championship against SMU.

NDSU is a perfect fit for Spencer Eliason who will get to play more as an under-classman and develop. I hope he is better than his brother was in the middle for the Gophers.

  3. Love the size! We need a big who will contribute immediately. Was he looking at anyone else other than the home town school? Offers? Dave said he didn’t want to settle in the paper the other day.

    • Spencer told me he had a bunch of D2 offers from the local Nebraska schools, had a visit planned to East Tennessee State, but that was it on the D1 front.

  4. a little off topic but nice story by Dom about NDSU lacrosse. Hope to see more coverage as they get better and win a MCLA National Championship.

  5. No other Schools recruited him? Is that any concern? It’s not often that great talent slips through the cracks in recruiting with the present day recruiting tools.
