Our new Forum pep fest beat reporter — Mike Nowatzki — said there were probably over 500 people at the Scheels parking lot for today’s Bison football sendoff. All the brats were gone, that he knows for sure.
This Gopher game has created a buzz I haven’t seen since the Sioux days. And, in some respects, it probably has surpassed it. NDSU will probably draw around 10,000 fans or more at the Metrodome Saturday; the Bison-Sioux games in G.F. never got close to that in terms of NDSU fans.
Like I said on this afternoon’s KFAN show, it’s like a small town team going to the state basketball tournament with that hokey sign; last person to leave town turn off the lights. No matter what the score is tomorrow, this game has been a great event for the city and the university. NDSU has probably picked up quite a few fans this week from its own backyard.
It sure beats covering NDSU at Minnesota State Mankato.
