Here today, gone later today

So Eric Konkol has left his position as an assistant men’s basketball coach at North Dakota State for a similar job at George Mason. This guy’s stint made Greg McDermott’s one-year stay look like five years.

So short that I never even met him, although that’s not the perfect gauge since Forum colleague Kevin Schnepf does most of the men’s basketball stuff. Schnepf said he met him once — briefly.

Is it me or is the basketball coaching revolving door spinning a mile a minute these days? SDSU women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston takes the Green Bay job, then changes his mind within a day or two. Billy Donovan takes an NBA job, then changes his mind back to Florida. There must be an ants-in-the-pants epidemic in basketball coaching.

The next basketball coach I meet will have the following reponse: "Nice to meet you and, if you’re not here next week, good luck."
