Saw a Bison football billboard titled "Thunderstruck" for the first time today and, in one word, it was safe. The marketing folks probably don’t want to venture into the "Scream Yellow" territory anytime soon.
For the uninitiated, Scream Yellow was the 2002 NDSU football ad campaign that aimed at getting fans to take pride in the school color. Among the fans in the picture was a man who looked almost identical to then head coach Bob Babich. It wasn’t Babich, of course.
Publicly, Babich laughed it off and said something politically correct about it. Privately, he was mad. Flint Communications of Fargo hired the models for the Scream Yellow photos and one representative said the man actually doesn’t look like Babich. It just came out that way.
Anyway, look for Thunderstruck-like campaigns for years to come.
