September 24th, 2011

That’s a date that will live in infamy for Bison fans. Four years ago to the date North Dakota State beat Minnesota 37-24 at TCF Bank Stadium. A game where quarterback Brock Jensen went 16 of 21 for 197 yards with no turnovers. A game where the Bison offensive line pushed the Gophers around to three rushing touchdowns. A game where NDSU’s defense shone, thanks to two defensive touchdowns, first Colten Heagle’s interception and lateral to Marcus Williams that was returned for a touchdown, then to seal it, Williams with a pick and a dive into the endzone.

As important as the 2007 win over Minnesota was for the NDSU program, the 2011 win cemented that the Bison program wasn’t going anywhere in Division 1 and that something something potentially was on the horizon for North Dakota State.

It seems fitting that Kyle Emanuel led the Bison with seven tackles in that game, since he makes his first trip back to TCF Bank Stadium Sunday as a member of the San Diego Chargers when they play the Vikings.

Enjoy some vintage highlights and report from Trevor Peterson! (I was in New York that day covering Roger Maris being honored by the Yankees for his 61 homers.)
