The replacement for assistant men’s basketball coach Eric Konkol will no doubt be sooner than later — look from something as early as next week. I don’t advocate reading between the lines but in this case, it appears NDSU head coach Saul Phillips was a little miffed Konkol was only on the job a few months before taking the No. 1 assistant’s position at George Mason.
I’m not sure what to think of this. Most assistants are always looking for a promotion and who can blame them? Is there some unwritten rule of commitment an assistant gives a program? Will opposing teams use that against NDSU in recruiting? — "Look, they can’t even keep a coach for three months." These are questions that don’t matter to Joe Fan but to a head coach, I imagine they can be quite stressful.
Konkol, by the way, was officially named at George Mason on Tuesday.
