What a title eh?

Spoke to a western ND high school coaching contact who’s tied in to recruiting in Bismarck.  I told you a couple weeks ago that I’m hearing the top ND player out west was Luke Senger out of Bismarck High.  He’s about 6 feet tall, maybe 215 pounds if I remember right.

Anyway, this guy says NDSU and UND have offered him partial scholarships, but UND is offering more money right now, so there you go on that.

I was curious to see if Craig Bohl would get a look at Iowa State for their coaching job.  It seemed a bit of a stretch, but you never know.  Turns out the Nebraska OC, Jay Norvell, is sounding like the emerging favorite from the IA media types down there.

I also think the Michigan State opening is a little too far-fetched, but Pat Perles’ dad George is still tied in there pretty well and if he pounded the table for Bohl, I don’t think it’s out of the question that he could get an interview.  George has said many glowing things of this year’s Bison team that have made places like the Star Tribune.

While I’m on the assistants, I think the chances of Willie Mack and Pat P leaving are better than Craig, but you never know.

Also hearing that Catlin Solum, who I love to watch play football and would like to see end up at NDSU, is very interested in baseball and might pick that over FB.  Am hearing NDSU’s interest is pretty lukewarm, but the Cobbers and Dragons are drooling.

And by the way, this Gridiron Power Index is supposed to be some kind of indicator of playoff positioning wasn’t so much so on this field.  And while I’m thinking of it, how did Montana State get in?  4 losses, weak conference, Davis destroyed em.  Yes, I know Colorado but still that one seems like a stretch.  But good that San Diego didn’t get in.  Next year prove it against a non-conference opponent or 2.

The word in high school coaching circles is that NDSU’s chances for landing Austin Richard, the big OL from Fargo South, are improving.  Austin went to a Minnesota Gopher camp, but hurt his back and couldn’t do much, and when you’re from out of metro, your chances of getting a scholarship offer take a hit when you can’t work out at their camp.   Word is the Gophers OL coach is still high on Richard, however.  But if the Gophers have a lousy season (and early indications would lead you to believe it’s possible) the Gopher staff may be looking for new jobs anyway.

The Justin Buckwalter saga has that unsettling feel to it.  I don’t like that he still can’t do contact work.  If he can’t practice by this weekend there’s little chance he plays next Thursday.

By the way, did you see that the same Creighton soccer team that the Bison beat in exhibition play , beat Minnesota?  Gophers play Bison Sunday in Twin Cities.

Can’t believe football season starts in 6 days.  Get those typing fingers ready, Jeffrey.
