Looking into the crystal ball, I see a war between media entities and the NCAA over blogging. I see a battle of who actually controls information and how it is distributed to the consumers. I see a major problem ahead of why in the name of Ring Lardner the NCAA thinks it can control the message.
The NCAA caved in a tad after it threw out a reporter covering a baseball game. See this story.
I wouldn’t call it a victory for the media, however. Not even close. Gee, we can blog scores and time remaining, which frankly isn’t blogging. It is just that — a score and time remaining. Blogging involves actually thinking about something constructive, putting it in sentences that are coherent and sending it over the Web. In the case of live blogging, you have to be quick about it.
The Forum has been into live blogging since last fall. It will be interesting to see what NDSU will do with us during football games this fall.
