I don’t know why WDAZ in Grand Forks didn’t televise the UND and UNI game. Maybe it tried, maybe it didn’t. The point is this: it prevented Sioux fans from witnessing a historic win.
That is the difference between UND’s victory Saturday and NDSU’s 2003 win at the University of Montana. Both have several similarities. UNI was ranked third in the Division I-AA poll (No. 1 on my voting card). Montana was around a top five team by my memory, just like they are almost every year.
The one factor that separates: a state-wide television audience saw the Bison game; only a couple of hundred Sioux fans on hand in Cedar Falls saw this upset.
