Zip in and zip out

Zip in and zip out

I’ve been impressed with Craig Bohl’s road trip strategy that he put into action last year. Rather than leave early Friday morning, bus to the stadium and go through a light practice, the Bison are leaving as late as possible on Friday.

They get to go to class for most of Friday. They eat lunch in their own homes or dining center. They practice where they’ve practiced all year. Then they hop on a plane, get to their destination in the early evening, eat, have a meeting or two and go to bed.

To quote Bill Murray: It’s like going to Wisconsin; you zip in and you zip out.

The players like it. They don’t need that Friday workout at the opposing stadium. If anything, it’s another thing to think about and another reason to get nervous for the Saturday game. Quarterback Steve Walker said last year he sees the opponent’s stadium on tape so much during the week that he doesn’t need to see it in person on Friday. And the linemen don’t care; they line up and look straight ahead.

Plus, simply being on the road is a hassle. The less time spent dealing with it, the better. So as long as NDSU can find some kind of bed somewhere within reasonable distance of Nachitoches (somebody make sure Hallstrom knows how to pronounce it), it will be fine.
