2013 Countdown: #5

2013 Countdown: #5

A two for one special on this Sunday, first there are some great articles that the college football fan needs to read on this hot day; first have a look at some great reporting by the New York Times on how ESPN has become THE major player in college football and for the detractors that have written on the blog that television has little power in realignment and schools moving to FBS, you’ll enjoy this. Speaking of moving up, have a look at this story out of Long Island, as Stony Brook gets set to begin Year 1 in the Colonial.

Countdown To 2013: NerdStat #5:

  • 5: That’s the number of years it has been since NDSU had an undefeated home schedule. 2007 was the last time the Bison ran the table at home with five games, wins over Stephen F, Sam Houston, UC Davis, Illinois State and SDSU. Since then NDSU has lost 9 games at the Dome since 2008, twice in 2008, four times in 2009 and one each over the last three years. There are two schools that have twice beaten the Bison over that stretch, Western Illinois and Youngstown State, neither come to Fargo this year. That brings me to my next point, that I think this streak ends this season. The home schedule as many have noted is not the best this season, losing Montana State was a blow no doubt, replacing with Ferris State. NDSU should take care of Ferris State and Delaware State, the conference games will be difficult, Northern Iowa comes right to mind. Illinois State will be right after that, but the Bison should take care of Missouri State and South Dakota. This stat just makes the road winning streak even more impressive over the past couple of years.
